Prep Baseball Report California will make a trip down to Cabrillo College in Aptos (Santa Cruz county) this weekend to see 50+ players from that region. Players in all four current high school grad classes will be present.

The region is known for producing some tough and hard nosed competitors, with plenty of talent as well. Given it's proximity to the South Bay and Peninsula, there will also be quite a few players from the loaded West Catholic Athletic League. Some of Northern California's most highly ranked players hail from this region, including #1 2019 Glenallen Hill, Jr. of Santa Cruz HS.

The day will feature a workout in the morning for position players, including the 60-yard dash, batting cage warm-up and exit velocity station, on-field batting practice, followed by the defensive evaluations, including velocity readings. Pitchers will throw in 15-pitch bullpen sessions and catchers will also be evaluated during the bullpen sessions.

We will get started promptly at 10:00 AM, players will arrive to check-in around 9:20.

The majority of these players remain uncommitted. We will be posting highlighted players on social media during the day, with reports and breakdowns, stats, and video to come in the days after the showcase. We are also looking forward to some of the players earning their way into our rankings for their respective grad classes.

Here are a handful of players who will be putting their talents on display to be evaluated by PBR California this weekend:

SS Trevor Heyn, 2019 Pacific Grove HS - One of the better players in Northern California who remains uncommitted, Heyn is an athletically gifted shortstop with some extra base pop. He hit .311 as a junior with a couple of triples and 18 stolen bases in 19 attempts.

LHP Hunter Hanes, 2019 Pacific Grove HS - 6-foot-3 190-pounder is one of the region's top multi-sport athletes (football), he has focused on baseball as a senior. As a junior he posted a 1.80 ERA in 42.2 IP, with 57 Ks. For good measure he also hit .337 with 8 extra base hits and led his team in hits.

SS Justin Deal, 2020 Monterey HS - Ranked 84th in the state and 24th at his position, Deal is a lean athlete with versatile defensive talents that translate all over the infield and a projectable bat. He hit .351 as a sophomore, with seven extra base hits.

OF Michael Mugan, 2020 Monterey HS - San Diego commit. Ranked 75th in the state and 17th among outfielders, he's a twitchy player with tools, in particular his speed, that can change games. He hit .333 as a sophomore, while leading his team in RBI.

C Joey Taddie, 2020 Leland HS - Physical backstop has athleticism that is impressive given his well-shaped 6-foot-5 body. He throws well and has displayed bat talent that certainly stands out for the catcher position. As a sophomore he hit near .300 and caught 6 of 13 would be basestealers.

INF Trevor Leon, 2020 St. Francis HS - Athletic infielder who flashed intriguing tools at various events this past summer. Leon has shown tools that can keep him in the middle of the diamond. His skill and instincts have stood out on multiple occasions, while showing a gap hitting approach.

OF/RHP Andru Holguin, 2019 Soledad HS - Very impressive junior season for Holguin as he hit an even .400 in 56 plate appearances with seven extra base hits. On the mound he posted a 1.81 ERA while going 10-1 in 73.2 IP. He threw two CGs while giving up only 46 hits.

OF Nico Barrese, 2022 St. Francis HS - A 2022 we are looking forward to seeing, he's a good outfielder with speed that plays defensively and on the bases.
