High School Crosscheck: March 28-April 2

LHP Levi Huesman (Hanover HS, VA) has a big start this week in the National High School Invitational, and if last week was a tune up, everybody should be in for a treat. PBR Virginia’s Jason Burton was on hand for his start against crosstown rival Atlee and didn’t disappoint. Here’s his report…

The Coastal Carolina recruit dealt in a five-inning no-hitter Wednesday night, racking up 13 strikeouts. The other two outs were a pop-up bunt and groundout to second. The only runner to reach was on a throwing error. Despite opposing hitters trying to bunt their way on in the third inning, Huesman still managed to strike out the first nine hitters of the game. The fastball was 92-94 mph early and faded just a touch in the second and third, only to tick back up in his fifth and final inning. He hit 93-95 on his final pitches of the night. He threw his fair share of 76-78 sweeping sliders early on in the game and showed an advanced feel for the pitch, throwing it for a strike pretty much whenever he wanted.
