LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2020 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified.

This year the No. 1 overall player in the state, and No. 5 nationally, happens to be a catcher. The position also happens to carry two other players in the Top 10 in the state with a few more outside that range that are certain to hear their names called whenever the next draft will be held. 

Given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, and pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team. 

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

#1 TYLER SODERSTROM - TURLOCK HS - UCLA SIGNEE

The left-handed stroke is one of the purest in the state and the consistent power makes him a very desirable MLB Draft prospect come June. Add to that his overall athleticism behind the plate and ability to play a corner spot on the infield and what you have is one of the premier players in the nation.

#10 DANIEL SUSAC - JESUIT HS - ARIZONA SIGNEE

The third catcher ranked in the Top 10, Susac has the best arm of the group (grades out at present 70), has shown power (with wood) to all fields... and he has now started to  switch-hit which only elevates his profile. 

#22 COLE CARRIGG - TURLOCK HS - SAN DIEGO STATE SIGNEE

Hyper athletic catcher - can easily dunk a basketball - who can play a few positions very well. Bat is consistent and shows present gap power. 

#37 ANGELO PERAZA - ST. AUGUSTINE HS - SAN DIEGO SIGNEE

A two-sport standout for the Saints for the better part of his four year career, Peraza was a record setting QB in addition to being a high level catcher on the diamond. Short, quick stroke to the ball that now shows some power. Elite catch/throw. 

#54 GARRET GUILLEMETE - SERVITE HS - SOUTHERN CAL SIGNEE

 As a result of the hard to get in the best shape of his high school career, Guillemette's bat was beginning to show the consistency that was seen in spurts over the years. Always one of the top best catch-throw players in the class in the state, that part of his game has maintained if not improved as well.
