INSIDE THE 2021 RANKINGS: OUTFIELD

PBR California Rankings

New Episode LIVE now! -At The Yard Podcast

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our updated Class of 2021 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at a few of these prospects. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.

It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two-to-three years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.

And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.

Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers, catchers, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman and shortstops. Now it's time to take a look at a few of the top ranked outfielders in the state for 2021 class. THE PLAYERS

#1 TYREE REED - AMERICAN CANYON - OREGON STATE COMMIT

The number one ranked player in the 2021 class possesses the ideal toolsy make-up for a player his age with two current plus tools. Plus-defensively, he has the ability to stay in centerfield at the next level as he ranges well and tracks down balls with big league ease. Natural sprinters speed grades out as a plus tool with the ability to get even faster with maturity and technique. 2019 summer circuit performance increased his stock and with another good showing in the 2020 summer circuit it should give him a first-round draft projection in the 2021 MLB Draft.

#9 NICK MCLAIN - BECKMAN - UCLA COMMIT

The switch-hitting toolsy outfielder is rounding into form and quickly rising as one of the better 2021 outfielders in the country. An above-average runner at 5-foot-10 170 pounds who displays on-field athleticism and a good baseball IQ. Pull-side pop from his natural right-handed side and developing power from the left-side. Plus-arm strength is evident from the outfield with crisp mechanically sound throws along with his ability to get on the mound and command a firm fastball. Solid player that should have a successful career at UCLA and beyond.

#27 COLE KONIARSKY - AYALA - CAL STATE FULLERTON COMMIT

Arguably the outfielder with the most upside in the class possess raw tools in a 6-foot-4 athletic frame. Displays an easy stroke at the dish with present power and some fine tuning away from making the necessary jump at the next level. Runs well for his size and fits well in either corner outfield spot with potential in centerfield as well down the line. Exciting player to watch that fits nicely in the Cal State Fullerton outfielder mold.

Built more like a tight-end the 6-foot-4 200 pound uncommitted outfielder possesses raw tools and a lot of upside. Displays a little bit of everything on the baseball field but lacking present polished tools. You can’t teach size and Phin possesses that, which makes him one of the best available uncommits in the 2021 class.

Talented and with toolsy projection. Showed off his projection with a 6.66 60 yard dash, power potential and natural outfield athleticism. Mixed bag of current performances lowers his ceiling. Finding consistency both offensively and defensively will greatly improve his overall game.
