BREAKOUT PLAYERS
Every summer tournament is a platform for a player to improve their stock or put themselves on scouts’ radars if they weren’t already there. So who did that at the NPI? Let’s just say, there was no shortage of examples…

A.J. Ewing SS / 2B / Springboro, OH / 2023

Ewing has long been a favorite within the PBR network, and NOBODY was better than him at the NPI. The Ohio native and Alabama recruit was unmatched in his production going 13-for-19 with five extra base hits including three home runs for 5-Star National Black in its championship run at the 17U level. Playing possessed with a mission to win, Ewing barreled everything thrown his way, and showcased a tough, hitterish vibe every time he stepped foot into the box. The left-handed hitter loads with a knee-knock leg kick and semi segmented hands that work deeper before quickly providing bat speed on flat path. There is easy lag in the zone, and the barrel appeared to stay on the ball forever as he notched hit after hit. Listed at 6-foot, 160-pounds, there is room to continue adding strength, and should the rest of his summer follow the same suit as the NPI, expect Ewing to create lots of buzz throughout the scouting community.
