1B Michael Brown (Vacaville)

2020 1B Michael Brown is a big and physical dude (6-4, 240) and has done a nice job shaping his body with more room for growth as he continues to mature. Don't let the size fool you, Brown loves to play the game and that showed up at the NorCal ProCase where he played loose with a giant smile on his face. It's the type of build and swing that allows you to dream on with plus raw power and a smooth glove able to make the plays at 1st base.

Brown showed off the raw power during BP hitting towering home runs over the trees from CF to RF showing loose wrists and a quick bat. Standing tall and relaxed,  Brown creates tension between the upper and lower halves with his hands loading deep into the shoulder allowing his explosive hips to drive through and start the swing before finishing with authority showing full turns and a high finish. The swing has an upwards arc with strength showing up controlling the barrel through the zone; it's the type of swing that has a lot of leverage and torque on the baseball having his feet dance around a bit during the swing. The ball flies off the bat with authority as he regularly made hard contact (95 EV). That power he displayed showed up in the Scout Game when he took a 91 MPH FB down at his knees and unloaded sending the ball deep and high over the RCF fence; bat crack was LOUD and the ball got out in a hurry.

His defensive actions at first base were solid as he is able to utilize his long frame to help infielders with throws stretching every way and grabbing balls out of the air. Browns glove also showed the ability to stay low and pick balls with a soft wrist scooping balls off the turf and finding the hops he could grab. He's athletic and able to move around at first base showing decent range and an arm that can make the throws. He made a diving play during the Scout Game showing he's got the reactions before picking a couple balls out of the dirt completing a great look at his defensive and offensive profile. You can see his enjoyment for the game with the way he carried himself laughing and smiling and ending the day giving huge handshakes to everyone that was on the field. As the top uncommitted 2020 in Northern California, Brown has a lot of options and should be a household name come MLB Draft time next season.
