ProCase 2019 - A Look Back at RHP Kyle Bratset

PBR Northern CA Scouting Staff

PODCAST: Northern CA ProCase

The 2019 Northern CA ProCase was held last June 9th at Delta College in Stockton and it featured all but one of the local talents who are in the mix for the upper rounds of the 2020 draft. The MLB draft will be June 10th and include only five rounds.

We've been building the roster for the 2020 ProCase (presently scheduled for June 13th at Islanders Field in Lathrop, but clearly subject to change) where the players will again be put through a pro-style workout with various stats/data recorded during the workouts which can be found HERE from 2019, as well as competitive at-bats/sim-game-type action. We will be ready to roll out our new tech partners, TrackMan, Blast Motion, & Driveline.

A LOOK BACK AT...

RHP Kyle Bratset (Washington HS) - report from 6/9/19

2020 RHP Kyle Bratset (San Jose State Commit) came into the event listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds showing a physical build in the large frame with present strength throughout; durable build with high waist and squared up shoulders. Bratset showed a three-pitch mix during the ProCase attacking hitters and being able to change eye levels.

On the mound, Bratset has deliberate pace to his delivery keeping his hands at the waist with side-step before a controlled front leg swing-lift; good ability of riding the mound finishing in an athletic position over a firm front leg. He showed the ability to repeat his delivery with times of having some cross-fire using the agility in his hips to work with it; when he's online the angle down and up through the zone is more pronounced and consistent. The arm is strong showing length working deep out of the glove and angling towards first before getting to its H-3/4 release and repeated the action allowing for a consistent release point from all three offerings.

The FB (85-88 MPH) showed angle down through the zone with the ability to run the ball under the hands of the righties; when it's on like it was during the event, the pitch is firm and heavy through the zone getting both ground balls and swings and misses when he went up through the top of the zone. During the outing he controlled the pitch well showing the ability to change locations with it and eye-level of the hitters. The CB (79 MPH) is a short, overhand bender with small depth showing some feel for the pitch and the ability to tighten it up when needing more snap in the pitch. Bratset's CUTTER (78-79 MPH) was late with tilt to the pitch; earlier in the season I saw him pitch and it had more SLD shape with bigger actions showing his ability to manipulate the pitch under barrels for swings and miss. Both offspeed pitches are quality offerings that show flashes of more in them, playing up when his command is on.

Bratset is the type of durable frame that college coaches dream about working with. His feel for his off-speed pitches will allow him to stay in a starter role matching those pitches with the ability to locate his fastball to all quadrants. Bratset should again be the ace of the Washington HS program in 2020 giving him the chance to show pro-scouts continued growth before having to make a decision between San Jose State and the MLB.
