SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Prep Baseball Report California ended the year on a high note with the San Diego Fall Open. With the sun setting an hour earlier and on a weekend that featured the Breeders’ Cup World Championships a mile away at the Del Mar racetrack, the San Diego Fall Open had its fair share of standouts, longshots and new names to help set the table for 2022. The event featured 400 batting practice pitches, 136 live at-bats, 306 defensive in game slots, 96 pages of TrackMan and Blast data and 7 hours of the best game on Earth.

With so many talented players on hand it was a great day of showcase baseball. The Quick Hits edition hit leadoff for post-event content followed by our stats story and TrackMan pitching analysis. Profile videos have been officially uploaded, helping clear the way for the four part scouting report rollout. TrackMan and Blast Motion provide necessary data needed to analyze and understand player capabilities but the written eye test remains undefeated and an integral part in scouting. Today we take a look at infielders.

SCOUTING REPORTS

Gavin Brown, Bonita Vista (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-8, 132-pounds. Slight build, athletic actions, body developing since last showing.
Hit: RHH. Even stance, lift and plant to hitting position, short swing, two hand finish. Looks to keep top hand under baseball - body inlined, short swing.  Blast Motion scores of 22-54-34. Quality connection score highlights his swing mechanics goal of getting aligned and in a good position to hit. Low plane resulting from short swing and low rotation from lack of strength, both scores will continue to improve with strength and body development. 70% sweet spot percentage in BP is notable.
Power: 81.00 max exit velocity.
Arm: RH. INF - 72.00 mph. Body momentum and alignment key to throwing accuracy, unable to make off balanced left-side throws, arm projects at second base.
Defense: Executed pre-pitch prep step, read the ball fairly well, displayed fielding fundamentals. Needs to quicken up transfers and release. Saw time at 2B, SS and LF.
Run: 7.85 runner in the 60.

Jackson Bush, Santa Fe Christian (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. Lean and tall, proportional throughout, room for strength development.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance with athletic knee bend, high hands, two-hand finish. College level hand and bat speed.  Blast Motion scores of 43-46-36. Swing shows some current hitting ability and scores indicate that with average plane and connection.
Power: 90.00 max exit velocity. Showed a patient approach and good eye during live at-bats. Walked 3 of 4 plate appearances.
Arm: RH. INF - 78.00 mph. Short arm swing, gets rid of the ball quickly, arm action leaves little room for error.
Defense: Put himself in a position to field, some stiffness, arm and height give him a chance to play all 4 infield positions.
Run: 7.15 runner in the 60.

Gabe Camacho, La Costa Canyon (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 6-1, 200-pounds. Larger build with strength throughout. Can add some athleticism.
Hit: LHH. Sets up upright and slightly open. Loads slow and early. Rhythmic hands that get into a slight waggle and end up in a barrel tip launch position. Turns the barrel well into the zone. Slight uphill path with contact out front. Natural loft to the pullside. High barrel finish. Ability to adjust approach mid AB. Two hits during game action.   Blast Motion scores of 32-49-49. Ability to get a good position to hit and current dynamic power help make up for low plane score. Tinkering with the swing to keep the bat in the zone for longer could show immediate results vs off-speed pitches.
Power: 93.00 max exit velocity. Pullside HR pop. 70.3 mph avg bat speed is above average for his level and gives him a good power floor.
Arm: LH. INF - 76.00 mph. Arm works well at first, able to make the throw to second and third with ease.
Defense: Consistent fielding actions, can flip to first correctly, limited laterally, bunt D key, good size for position, can pick it too.
Run: 7.61 runner in the 60.

Jacob Dagan, Maranatha Christian (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-10, 170-pounds. Medium athletic build. Higher waisted. Room to add gains throughout.
Hit: RHH. Wider set feet in stance. Uses a smaller leg lift trigger with minimal forward movement. Hands pull into a lower load position. Easy smooth stroke with some present barrel accuracy. Level path. Balanced at finish. Middle of the field approach throughout BP round.
Power: 91.00 max exit velocity. Present gap-to-gap power. Needed increases in bat speed and rotational acceleration to increase power.
Arm: RH. INF - 78.00 mph. 4/6 accurate throws during workout. Short and slingy arm action. Flashed some decent carry. Glove taps slowed down quickness to release.
Defense: Average defensive actions. Inconsistent with glove positioning. Decent footwork and lateral quickness. Average exchange. Corner infield projection.
Run: 7.50 runner in the 60.

Spencer Davis, Granite Hills (CA), 2022
Positional Profile: 2B/3B
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Well proportioned mature build. Present strength in the upper half.
Hit: LHH. Slightly open in stance. Small gather into backside as he uses a simple forward stride. Hands show present speed and work well in the swing. Compact direct path with present barrel accuracy. Level path through the zone and keeps good extension. LD filled round using the whole field. Hit it where it was pitched. Two LD barrels during game action.
Power: 93.00 max exit velocity. Present gap to gap double power. Above-average hand speed. Rotational acceleration average of 19.7 gs is above average for his level and shows a good potential power ceiling.
Arm: RH. INF - 78.00 mph. Average arm strength. 5/6 accurate throws during the workout. Flashed some decent carry across the diamond. Shorter arm action out of an over-the-top slot. Easy effort.
Defense: Showed solid fundamentals at 3B. Lets's the ball come to him while putting himself in a good fielding position. Soft hands with clean funnel up to the belt. Ability to stay at 3B.
Run: 7.42 runner in the 60.

Christopher DiPrima, Del Norte (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-11, 175-pounds. Medium build that is maturing and filling out. Present strength in the lower half.
Hit: RHH. Athletic stance. Wide with straight-up feet. Simple foot down early trigger that is in sync with his hands loading back into his scap. Compact stroke that works direct to the ball. LD filled round that worked the whole field. Clean path. Allows the body to tilt and stay in that tilt through the swing. Quick hands and above-average bat speed allow him to barrel higher velocity.
Power: 90.00 max exit velocity. Some present wall-ball power to the pull side. Average bat speed of 69 mph and rotational acceleration of 17gs shows a decent power ceiling.
Arm: RH. INF - 84.00 mph. OF - 88.00 mph. Above-average arm strength from both spots with similar arm actions. OF throws were a mix of accurate on-the-fly throws and 1-hops with good carry.  5/5 accurate throws from the INF as well. Shorter arm action from SS but loads into scap a bit more in the OF and gets more uphill with his shoulders to get that pulldown action. Doesn't need extra time to get off strong throws with consistent quickness to release.
Defense: Above average actions from both the INF/OF. In the OF displays glove early, fields in rhythm and creates good momentum with his body after fielding to get off strong throws. Heavier feet in the INF but showed good fundamentals. Low fielding positioning with decent glove skills and a clean funnel up to belt. Projects to a corner INF spot.
Run: 7.63 runner in the 60.

Jack Gallison, Dana Hills (CA), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-3, 175-pounds. Long and lanky frame, showed some strength in his lower half in batting practice, two-way player with some current athleticism.
Hit: LHH. Slightly open and wide stance, steps into inline hitting position, gets some good support and turn on back hip, smooth left-handed finish.  Blast scores of 53-48-35. Swing scores show a bat with ability to stay through the zone and reach ideal hitting alignment. The low rotation score comes as a surprise but likely due to his swing taking time to get in position.
Power: 91.00 max exit velocity. Batting practice home run to right-field at 345 ft. Lower half drive is promising for power projection.
Arm: RH. INF - 79.00 mph. Showed enough arm strength to stick at third, made a very nice off balanced throw from foul territory that highlighted his showing.
Defense: Spent a lot of defensive time at third base, showing good presence and reaction. Long reach plays up with an arm that can make the throws. Quicker movements overall would have benefits to his game.
Run: 7.68 runner in the 60.

Eduardo Gomez, Patrick Henry (CA), 2024
Positional Profile: SS
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Well proportioned medium build. Present athleticism.

Hit: LHH. Slightly open and offset, comfortable feel in the box, takes a hack, looks to pull. Rawness overall but there is something in the swing that catches the eye for down the line projection. Blast shows a swing with some hand and bat speed along with good alignment. The aggressive approach showed with swings and misses. Best in game hits have been to the opposite field.
Power: 96.00 max exit velocity. Lanky frame but with power, the 96 exit velocity a big increase from his showing in March. Would like to see more contact and less swing and miss but cannot deny the already present power in a developing swing.
Arm: RH. INF - 80.00 mph. Arm has strength behind it, able to make throws from multiple angles, some flair to his throwing mechanics. Arm along with current footspeed could translate well to the outfield.
Defense: Looked the part, quality prep step and positioning. The type of on-field athleticism that will get you noticed. Consistency is key and will need to be seen for D1.
Run: 7.04 runner in the 60.

Uses a smaller leg lift trigger that gets him engaged with the backside. Loads into a higher elbow early connection from the right side with lower set hands from the left side. The barrel path is slightly uphill. Right side contact is more consistently out front with better barrel accuracy.
