With the 2022 summer in the books, we continue to highlight players who stood out of the summer. Last week we highlighted players from each class who stood out through their Trackman metrics. Today, our staff dove into our summer events and chose 20 uncommitted 2023s who stood out to them. Take a look.

Summer Standouts: Uncommitted 2023's

Ethan Beal OF / OF / Lake Brantley, FL / 2023

Ethan Beal stood out at the 2022 Sunshine State Classic. Beal’s tall, athletic frame at 5-foot 11, 165 pounds gives him the ability to be a speed, power dual threat. He had one of the best 60 times at the event running a 6.87. Unique swing, quick load. Gap-to-gap power potential. Top of the order profile with his power, contact, speed mix. Strong outfield arm topping out at 85 MPH. Natural athleticism. Potential to play all outfield positions.

 

Logan Chapman 3B / SS / Montverde Academy, FL / 2023

Logan Chapman featured his talents at the Sunshine State Classic. Standing at a 6-foot, 195 pounds, Chapman showcased why he is a top third baseman in the state. While in the infield, he showcased consistent, accurate throws reaching up to 89 mph to the base. As well as quick feet and above average hands. Present hit tool working gap to gap. Chapman had an exit velocity of 96 mph.

 

Gavin Dicks LHP / OF / Lake Wales , FL / 2023

Gavin Dicks was one of the standouts at the 2022 Southeast Senior Games. He has a tall, lanky frame at 6-foot 3, 165 pounds with room to fill out. Above-average fastball, curveball, slider mix. College-level spin rate on all his pitches. High velocity arm, with smooth delivery. Line drive hitter with sneaky pop. Top of the lineup bat with contact, speed ability. Potential to be even more special with added weight.

 

Ty Grover 1B / 3B / Springstead , FL / 2023

Ty Grover displayed what the 6-foot, 190 pounds righty could do at the Florida Uncommitted Games. His athletic frame allowed for a top exit velocity at the event reaching 98 mph. Grover showcased improved footwork and hands at first base. Grover continues to make nice jumps and is an uncommitted bat to follow.

 

Nicolas Gutierrez-Villa RHP / 1B / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2023

Nicolas Gutierrez-Villa out of Archbishop McCarthy showed off pitch ability at the Sunshine State Classic. The 6-foot-1, 195 pound RHP features a fastball, changeup, and slider and throws each with consistent accuracy and strong velocity. His fastball sat at 84-86 mph and maxed out at 86.4 mph. His fastball also had strong horizontal movement and he was able to pick his spots and consistently hit them.

 

Carson Henrikson SS / RHP / Lake Wales, FL / 2023

Carson Henrikson stood out during the Florida Uncommitted Games. The tall 6-foot, 142 pound shortstop showcased one of the top arms at the event, with throws reaching 85 mph. His tall open setup allows for quick hands that are explosive through the ball. Good exit velocity at 86 mph creating hard contact.

 

Daniel Kilmer C / OF / IMG Academy , FL / 2023

Daniel Kilmer showed off his talents at the Sunshine State Classic in June. The 6-foot-2 180 pound catcher/outfielder out of IMG Academy had some strong numbers. Offensively, Kilmer had some pop in his bat hitting a top exit velocity of 93.6 mph and averaged 84.7 mph. Behind the plate, his pop time sat between 2.04-2.16 and had a top throwing velocity of 74 mph. Most of the throws were right on a line with the second base bag.

 

Justin Mayes LHP / 1B / Calvary Christian , FL / 2023

Justin Mayes put on a show at the USF Summer Kickoff event. The tall, lanky 6-foot, 185 pound lefty with a solid muscular build. Athleticism showed during the 60 yard dash clocking in at 7.18  Mayes shows potential on the mound as a four pitch guy who mixes speeds effectively. Fastball clocked in at 87 mph along with a sharp curve and slider, and quality changeup. Strong arm in the outfield topping 86 with downward action. Aggressive hitter at the plate ready to attack the baseball. Mayes hit a 97 mph exit velo off the bat.

 

Brendan McKinney OF / RHP / Bishop Kenny, FL / 2023

Brendan McKinney stood out at the Florida Unsigned Senior Games. The lean, 6-foot 170 pound athlete stood out during the 60 clocking in a 6.99. McKinney showed a quiet load and solid lower half with an exit velo of 84 mph. McKinney showcased an up-tempo, repeatable delivery on the mound. Fastball clocked at 85 mph with a mix of a changeup, curveball, and slider.

 

Giovanni Mendoza C / 3B / Freedom, FL / 2023

Giovanni Mendoza showcased his skill at the Summer Kickoff USF. Athletic frame standing at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Mendoza had the best pop time from this event with a range of 1.94-1.97. Quick out of the crouch. While at the plate showed barrel control and an 89 mph exit velocity.

 

Devan Meran OF / ESB Academy , FL / 2023

Devan Meran stood out at the Elite Squad Scout Day. He has a tall, lean frame at 6-foot, 175 pounds with an athletic build. Smooth, natural swing with sneaky power. Middle of the order bat that can turn into a power/speed threat. Showed off his powerful arm, topping out at 90 mph in the outfield. Toolsy outfielder with a lot of upside.

 

Andrew Merchant OF / Lake Mary, FL / 2023

Andrew Merchant is an athletic outfielder who showed well at the Sunshine State Classic. Moves well in the outfield with an above average arm at 89 mph. Merchant showed a short compact swing staying inside the baseball. Works gap to gap with a level bath. Flashed power potential to all fields.

 

Ryan Morrow SS / OF / Lakewood, FL / 2023

Ryan Morrow showed off his athletic ability at the Pro Youth Foundation Scout Day. Morrow has a lean body at 5-foot 10, 155 pounds. Lots of potential to fill out. Weight room will be his best friend. Showed off his athleticism and long strides clocking in a 6.98 60. Natural arm showing 87 from the outfield and 83 from the shortstop. Quiet approach at the plate who works the ball gap to gap. Clocked in exit velo at 85.6 mph. A guy to definitely take a chance on.

 

Lucas Ramos 1B / OF / Apopka, FL / 2023

Lucas Ramos is a power hitting 1B out of Apopka High School. He stands at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds and is very agile for his size with good footwork at 1st base. The lefty features a ton of power with his exit velocity hitting 100.1 mph and averaging around 87.9 mph. He also had above average bat and hand speed which allowed him to get to any pitch he saw and find barrels.

 

Simon Scharff C / OF / Lake Wales Senior, FL / 2023

Simon Scharff showed off his hit/catch ability at the 2022 Southeast Senior Games. He has a 6-foot, 190 pound frame that suits perfect for a catcher. Scharff has made big jumps over the last year and it shows. Line drive hitter with a high exit velocity. Quick hands. College ready arm at both catcher and outfield. Above-average pop time.

 

Kirk Stensrud 1B / RHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

Kirk Stensrud was a standout at the Southeast Senior Games. He has a tall, bulky frame at 6-foot, 230 pounds with a power build. Perfect for his natural position, first base. Stensrud’s ability to make hard, loud contact with the ball has his exit velocity already topping out at 101.5 mph. Consistent barrels to ball. Stensrud flashed two-way ability as a side-armer. Has the ability to strike guys out with his three pitch mix. Above average changeup mixed with slider and sinking fastball.

 

Jack Stowers C / 1B / St. Pauls Episcopal, AL / 2023

Jack Stowers showed well at the Aces National Scout Day. The tall 6-foot-3, 205 pound catcher shows potential for power with the bat, with an exit velocity of 95.8 mph and hand speed and bat speed reaching 75.2 mph. Works up through the zone and has a solid feel for the barrel. Behind the plate showed average pop times. With a range of 2.18 - 2.19. Stowers does a good job framing pitches and controlling the run game.

 

Clay Thompson OF / 3B / Jesuit, FL / 2023

Clay Thompson out of Jesuit HS was a big standout at the Summer Kickoff USF. Ran the 2nd fastest 60 at the event with a time of 6.81. Thompson showcased arm strength in the outfield up to 89 mph. The right handed hitter has a physical 6-foot, 180 pound frame. Showcased present bat speed with a line drive approach at the plate. Does damage to both gaps with juice off the bat.

 

Nicholas Upperman OF / SS / Seminole , FL / 2023

Nicholas Upperman was one of the standouts at the Florida Uncommitted Games. The lean athletic 5-foot 10, 185 pound athlete ran the best 60 at the event clocking in at 6.76. Upperman shows sneaky pop with the bat with a 91 mph exit velocity. Balanced swing with a solid load and quiet lower half while displaying gap to gap plate coverage. Strong arm from the outfield hitting 85 mph with solid downward action. A speedy, athletic recruit with sneaky pop.

 

Tyler Wabnitz SS / 2B / Keswick Christian, FL / 2023

Tyler Wabnitz stood out at the FL Unsigned Senior Games. The athletic middle infielder has gotten more physical recently sitting 6-foot, 180 pounds. Wabnitz ran a 6.95 60 and showcased a gap to gap approach in bp. Wabnitz worked consistent hard line drives up to 87.7 mph.
