Updated and Expanded Florida Class of 2019 Rankings Released

Mike Maerz
Director of Florida Operations/Area Scout

With the high school season in full swing and spring break tournaments occurring all over the state, it’s time to make an update to the Florida Class of 2019 Rankings. In this update, the list has expanded to 175 players, along with some changes and additions near the top. While there has been no change to the top four spots and LHP Hunter Barco (Bolles HS, FL) remains at No. 1, RHP Matt Allan (Seminole HS, FL) has moved into the fifth spot.

Below is a full breakdown of the top five with a report and video, followed by a look at the Top 10:

Hunter Barco LHP / 1B / Bolles, FL / 2019

Barco throws out of a long 3/4 slot with a slinger-like arm action and effortlessly fills up the strike zone with 91-94 mph fastballs, all with arm-side run. The fact that he can command such movement, seemingly putting it where he wants, is extremely rare at his age. Now mix in an 82-85 mph sweeping slider with sharp, late bite and a mid-80s changeup with fading action—all coming out of the same window and arm action—and hitters have little chance for success.

Riley Greene OF / LHP / Hagerty, FL / 2019

The wiry-athletic, 6-foot-3, 185-pound Florida recruit has quick hands, and his loose finish allows for the ball to scream off the bat, usually with backspin into a gap. Greene’s frame is athletic without being bulky, and his elasticity helps him to create leverage on an uphill plane while allowing his barrel to spend a long time in the zone. He has continued to produce while in the national spotlight at major events, and appears to developing even more power. He is one of the top hitters in the 2019 class.

Rece Hinds SS / 3B / Niceville, FL / 2019

A Louisiana State recruit, the high-waisted, athletic, 6-foot-3, 195-pound Hinds has one of the best all-around tool sets in the class. Defensively, he shows a quick first step with easy, rangy actions and a plus arm. The frame and athleticism appears to give him the ability to stick at short, but if he continues to fill out he could be a plus defensive third baseman. At the plate, he is balanced with a slightly open stance, quick hands, and above average bat speed. He consistently makes hard, loud contact with above average power and bat-to-ball skills.

Judson Fabian OF / LHP / Trinity Catholic, FL / 2019

A Florida recruit, Fabian has a long, loose frame at 6 feet, 180 pounds. He is wide shouldered and a good looking athlete. He stands out on the field. He is impressive in the outfield with a long, loose arm that is very accurate.  He can play center field now, but may continue to add to the frame and become a corner guy in the future. The ball sounds different coming off his bat, as he is balanced and the bat stays in the zone for a long time. His hands are strong and they have advanced quickness.  He is very quiet in his set-up and load with a short stride. The path works level and has a high finish. Overall, he's athletic with a plus bat and big potential.

Matt Allan RHP / 3B / Seminole, FL / 2019

The Florida recruit stands at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds with a strong, wide-shouldered frame and good lower half. Simple, repeatable delivery. His fastball works at 92-94 mph along with a curveball that shows sharp breaking action with depth at 78-79 mph and a mid-80s change up.
