3A St. Viator Sectional: St. Viator and Lakes Advance

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Thursday afternoon the 3A St. Viator Sectional Semifinal games took place with St. Viator beating Wauconda and Lakes beating Carmel.

Game 1: St. Viator 4 Wauconda 0

Cole Kmet was flat out dominant in the Lions victory Thursday afternoon. Kmet, a Notre Dame football commit, got the start and worked 5.1 innings struckout 12 Bulldog hitters. Through three innings of work every single out was recorded via the strikeout. At one point he struck out six consecutive hitters. He allowed just three hits and two walks in his 5.1 innings of work.

Shaun Falbo came in to relieve Kmet and worked the final 1.2 innings striking out two to earn the save. Falbo also chipped in with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Lions first got on the board in the top of the fifth when Brett DeSelm singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a fielders choice by pinch hitter Brett Hellgeth. The Lions added an insurance run in the seventh when Michael Ragauskis, who doubled with one out, came around to score on a sacrifice bunt by Kmet.

Luke Weller went 2-3 at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Game 2: Lakes 5 Carmel 2

In the second game Lakes came back to beat Carmel 5-2.

Lakes got on the board in the top of the first when Max Swiatek doubled with two outs and came around to score on an RBI single by Ben Milewski.

Carmel answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Eddie Pietschmann launched a two run homer to the opposite field to give them a 2-1 lead.

Lakes immediately responded in the top of the fifth when Ben Milewski again came thru in the clutch with a bases clearing double to give Lakes the 4-2 lead. Simon Vartick followed up the double with an RBI single of his own to score Milewski.

Milewski pitched the final two innings to earn the save for Lakes.

Lakes and St. Viator will meet on Saturday for the 3A St. Viator Sectional Championship Title.
