LANSING, IL - The No. 6 Andrew Thunderbolts held the home dugout as they squared off with the Lockport Porters Saturday morning at Thornton Fractional South. The fans came flocking at 10 a.m. to see the Thunderbolts defeat the Porters 6-3 for the Lansing 4A Regional Championship behind a strong performance on both sides of the ball by Andrew’s Scott Youngbrandt (‘18, St. Louis commit).

Youngbrandt started the fireworks off in the bottom of the first frame when the senior drove a three-run home run deep over the left field fence. The blast scored Michael Carey (Austin Peay commit) and Jacob Plastiak (Wichita State commit). Carey led off the Andrew first with a line drive double to left/center field, while Plastiak wore a pitch off the elbow. Fast forward five innings later, Youngbrandt finishes his day on the mound with 113 pitches and a line: 6IP, 4H, 3R/ER, 9K, 0BB. He capped off his day with another round-tripper in the sixth, this time being a solo shot that landed just in front of his first.

Lockport did put the first tally of the game on the board courtesy of the 1-2 part of their lineup. CJ Weins (Wabash Valley JC commit) took the first pitch of the contest and laced it down the right field line sliding in for a hustle triple. Freshman Ryan Moermann worked a nice at-bat and drove an outside slider to right field, sacrificing in Weins.

Moermann would pick up another RBI and quality at-bat in his second plate appearance. 9-hole hitter Collin Woulfe led off the 2nd inning with a single up the middle, Weins gets hit by a pitch, which set the stage for a 2-strike, RBI single to centerfield by Moermann scoring Woulfe. Next guy up John Weis then grounded out to the first basemen scoring Weins for an RBI of his own.

Andrew scratched an unearned run back in the bottom of the second. Cathal Hannon (Marian University (WI) commit) led off with a walk, gets sacrificed to second and comes in to touch home on a hard hit, defensively misplayed, ball off the bat of Carey. One inning later, Carey collects his second two-bagger of the game this time to deep right field scoring Anthony Montalbano. Montalbano singled up the middle and stole second setting the 2-out RBI opportunity for Carey.

Thunderbolt reliever Nolan Fasel picked up the three-out save surrendering one-hit to the first batter he faced. The Sophomore righty stayed on track not allowing another Porter to reach base finishing with one punch out. Lockport starting pitcher Tommy Louch took the loss going 4.1 innings allowing five hits, five earned runs, one strikeout and three walks. Weis came in relief and finished with a line: 1.2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 2K.
