All-State Games: Outfielder Analysis

By Illinois Scouting Staff

On Aug. 9, we hosted the invite-only showcase in River Grove, Ill., at Triton College: All-State Games. The showcase featured over 50 of the top 2020 prospects from both Illinois and Wisconsin. We’ve already seen one of the event’s attendees commit to play at the next level since All-State Games and, given the talent at Triton College last month, there’s bound to be more in the future.

Today, we’ll continue our position-by-position analysis with a deep dive into the event’s outfielders.

There was plenty of power on display in batting practice at River Grove and OF Daniel Clawson (Hersey; uncommitted) might have been the one to showcase the best pop potential. The strong 6-foot-2 righty is regularly backspinning baseballs hard off the barrel and produced one of the top exit velocities at the event. Clawson is ranked in the top 10 at his position within Illinois’ 2020 class primarily for his power-packed upside.

One of Wisconsin’s top-30 prospects in its 2020 class attended All-State Games: OF Gunnar Doyle (Oak Creek; uncommitted). The left-handed hitting Doyle has an all-around profile – he can hit, run, and defend. The Oak Creek outfielder glides around the outfield where, as a sub-7.00 runner, he can cover a lot of ground and uses a simple swing to routinely batter line drives into the gaps. He remains one of the top unsigned outfielders in his home state.

Uncommitted Illinois prospects Max Rundberg III (Chicago Bulls College Prep) and Tom Jurack (Hinsdale Central) certainly deserve mentions here, too. Rundberg, a left-handed hitter, works toward the middle of the field with his smooth, level stroke. Jurack, on the other hand, was another one of this event’s tall and strong prospects who made some very loud contact in batting practice.

We previously published our Statistical Analysis from the showcase, as well as yesterday’s report on the event’s catchers. Also, keep an eye out tomorrow where we’ll break down the day’s infielders. For now, read reports on all eight outfielders who attended All-State Games.
