Heartland Scout Day: The 5-foot-11 right hander showed a quick arm with a repeatable delivery and average effort. High-spin fastball (2573 rpm max) was up to 90 mph (mostly 88-89), while his curveball arrived at the plate at 73-75 mph with tight spin into the 2900 rpm range, as well as a 77-79 mph slider with similar spin rates. Aten also flashed a firm changeup at 83-84 mph.

Sat 85-87 mph. Struck out two in one inning on elevated fastballs. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 68-69 mph. Slider plays 72-74 mph, 10/4 shape. Outfield arm plays short and loose, high ¾ slot, carried well, 87 mph. Easy arm and actions played through. 6.94 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, wide setup, arm bar load, short stride. Bat strength present, flashed pull side pop, slight uphill path. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee.
1.27.18 - 5-foot-10, 160-pound, two-way prospect. Put himself on the map as a high-follow 2020. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, smooth repeatable delivery, lands slightly closed with easy effort throughout. Arm works quick and over-the-top. Fastball, comes out of the hand easy, life through the zone, sat 83-85 mph, touched 87 twice. Curveball works 12/6, occasionally backs up, 66-69 mph. Changeup, cut action at times, 75-77 mph. Defensively, fluid footwork, plays through the baseball, athletic transfer. Quick arm action from an over-the-top slot, accurate throws with carry, clocked at 86 mph. 7.07 runner in the 60.
