Southern Illinois River-River-Ohio

No. 18 Benton (15-3; 5-0) exploded for seven runs in the top of the third and coasted past No.20 Harrisburg 8-1 in a huge SIRR-Ohio battle for first place. Bradley-University-bound Ranger Ty Leffler had a perfect 3-for-3 day including his 11th bomb of 2012. Leffler is hitting a robust .600 with 11 bombs and 33 RBI.

Ranger senior RHP Trey Garrett (4-0) did the rest. Garrett fired a three-hitter at the Bulldogs and had a huge bases-clearing double in the big seven-run third.

Garrett now has 30 RBI for 2012.

Harrisburg falls to 11-4-1 and 2-1 in SIRR-Ohio action. The two clubs will meet again at Benton City Park on Monday April 23 at 4:30.

Big Northern East

Burlington Central (9-5; 1-1) defeated Marengo 9-6. Rocket senior RHP Zack Ranney improved to 3-0 on the mound and senior C Tanner Scott had two hits and two RBI to lead the Rockets.

Cahokia

Columbia (11-3; 1-1) blasted previously unbeaten Freeburg 11-2 on Tuesday. Freeburg falls to 10-1 and 1-1 in the CC.

Central State 8

Chatham Glenwood (10-3; 7-0) plated four in the bottom of the sixth to cruise past Jacksonville 7-3. Kansas State-bound C Alex Bee had three hits and drove in three, two in the big sixth. Sophomore RHP Brian Hobbie (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the CS8 leaders.

Central Suburban Crossovers

No.  23 Glenbrook South (9-3; 1-0 South) nipped Deerfield 1-0 behind a two-hit shutout from Titan junior RHP Sam Koloms. Titan senior C Mike Reinisch drove home the only run Koloms would need.

Maine South (8-3; 1-0 South) slipped past Maine West 2-1 behind a four-hitter from Hawk senior Pat Aloisio (4-0).

Glenbrook North (9-4; 1-0 North) shutout No. 13 Niles West 3-0 on Tuesday. Bradley–bound Spartan RHP Peter Resnick fired a no-hitter with five strikeouts. Spartan senior Chad Bruce had three hits to lead the Spartan offense on Tuesday. Niles West falls to (12-2; 0-1 South).

Evanston (9-5; 1-0 South) defeated Niles North 4-1 behind Wildkit senior Jordan Crawford. Crawford threw a four-hitter at the Vikings and fanned 14.

Fox Valley Crossovers

McHenry (10-4; 2-0 Valley) defeated Grayslake North 7-1 behind junior Andrew Reisinger (3-0). Reisinger allowed an unearned run and four hits in his 4 1/3 innings of work. Warrior junior Devon Gehrke continued his assault on the baseball with three more hits, including a triple and two RBI. Senior 2B Kyle Clark chipped in with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Crystal Lake South (9-6; 1-1 Valley) blasted Woodstock 11-3 as Gator senior Jordan Van Dych improved to 5-0 on the mound for CLS. Gator senior C Dom Winiecki had three hits and drove in six big Gator runs.

Interstate 8 North

Lisle (13-4; 3-0) hammered Coal City again 7-0 behind a 12 strikeout white-wash from junior Ryan Van Volkenberg. Van Volkenberg had three hits at the plate as well.

Interstate 8 South

Herscher (14-4; 2-1) blasted Peotone 12-2 in five innings on Tuesday. Tiger senior LHP Matt Webber (3-1) fired a four-hitter at the Blue Devils and Tiger Kyle Burton had a perfect 4-for-4 day with two RBI for Herscher.

Manteno (16-1; 2-1) outslugged Dwight 18-7 behind Panther junior C Ryan Sample. Sample had three hits and drove in three Panther runs. Panther junior Kevin Sloat plated four Panther runs with a pair of hits. Judson College-bound Mark Reardanz improved to 5-0 on the mound and helped himself with a big three-hit day with two RBI.

North Suburban Lake

No. 8 Mundelein (14-2; 3-0) stopped Lake Zurich 2-0 behind a 13K shutout performance in Lake Zurich on Tuesday. Lake Zurich’s (10-4; 2-1) Purdue-bound Paul Lutz (4-1) was the hard-luck loser for the Bears.

The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Mundelein for the big NSC-Lake rematch today at 4:30.

Stevenson (7-4; 3-0) kept pace with Mundelein with a thrilling 8-7 win over Warren. Patriot Bill Sullivan had three hits and an RBI to lead Stevenson to its NSC-Lake victory.

Libertyville (7-2; 1-0) blasted Zion Benton 8-1. Wildcat junior PJ Newmann had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. Senior RHP Kyle Cibriano allowed one hit in his five innings of work.

Northern Illinois Big 12-East

Defending Class 3A champ Kaneland (8-5; 2-0) slipped past Rochelle 1-0 behind a one-hit shutout by John Hopkins (3-2). Knight Ty Heinle had two hits and drove in the game-winner for Kaneland.

Northern Illinois Big 12-West

Ottawa (10-4; 2-0) finished off its sweep of NIB12-West favorite Streator 2-0 on Tuesday. Pirate LHP Dusty Dekreon fired a shutout at the Bulldogs. Junior SS Miguel Hermosillo led the Pirate attack with a 3-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base. 

South Seven

No. 17 Mount Vernon (13-4; 3-1) got stung by Mascoutah 6-4 in Mascoutah on Tuesday. The Indians exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to roar past the Rams.

South Suburban Blue

Bremen (12-6; 4-0) defeated TF North 6-2 behind a three-hitter from senior Noel Sanders (2-2). Brave sophomore Brian Costello had a pair of hits and an RBI for the SSC-Blue leaders.

Lemont (7-4; 3-1) shutout Reavis 10-0 in five innings behind University of Illinois-bound LHP Tyler Jay (2-3). Jay allowed one hit over four innings and had 8 strikeouts. Indian junior Conner O’ Brien had a perfect 3-for-3 day for Lemont.  Indian seniors Gio Schmitt and Kyle Milinowisch had two hits and two RBI.

South Suburban Red

Richards (9-6; 4-0) blanked Eisenhower 5-0 on Tuesday. Bulldog sophomore Charlie Zeschke had three hits and two RBI to lead the Bulldog attack. Junior RHP AJ Bray (1-0) fired four shutout innings with three strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for the SCC-Red leaders.

Oak Lawn (9-5; 4-1) blanked Evergreen Park 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday. Spartan senior Nick Mozwecz fired a three-hitter at the Mustangs, using only 55 pitches to finish the job. Spartan junior Bob Kametas crushed a bases-clearing double for the big blow. Spartan senior Brian Barnhouse and Alec Barnhart continued their hot-hitting. Barnhouse had two hits, including a triple and drove home two. Barnhart singled in the first run of the game for the Spartans among his two hits.

The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Oak Lawn on Thursday as the Spartans will host SSC-Blue leader, Bremen at 4:30.

Southwest Prairie

No. 4 Plainfield North (10-1; 3-1) nipped Oswego East 6-5 behind Tiger senior Caleb Kissel, who had three hits and drove home two big runs for PN. Notre Dame-bound RHP Joey Cresta (3-0) went the distance for the Tigers with 10 strikeouts. The PBR’s Executive Director Sean Duncan will be on the East side of Oswego for game two of the series between the Tigers and the Wolves today at 4:30.

Minooka (9-6; 3-1) defeated Plainfield South 6-2 behind Bellarmine University-bound LHP Josh JimInez. Jiminez went the distance and had 10 strikeouts for Minooka. Senior TJ Condon had two hits and two RBI to lead the Indian attack. Plainfield South (8-5; 3-1) suffered its first SWPC loss.

Southwestern

No. 19 Alton (12-2; 4-1) romped past East St. Louis 18-0 in five innings.

No. 25 O’Fallon (10-5; 4-1) defeated Belleville West 7-4 in a battle between SWC leaders. Belleville West falls to (7-4; 3-2)

Edwardsville (10-2; 3-2) beat up on Granite City, 18-7.

Belleville East (10-5; 3-2) routed Collinsville 12-0 in five innings.

Suburban Christian Gold

St. Edward (10-9; 3-1) defeated Aurora Christian 5-1 behind Green Wave junior Jake Koehring (5-1).Koehring fired a five-hitter at the hard-hitting Eagles. Koehring struck out eight and had three hits at the plate and drove in a run.

Aurora Christian (8-3; 1-1) was led by senior Josh Haugen, who had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles,

Upstate 8 Crossovers

Neuqua Valley 8-3; 5-0 Valley) rolled past St. Charles North 12-4. University of Illinois-bound Nick Blackburn homered and drove home two for the Wildcats. Junior C Dylan Goss went deep as well and drove home three runs. Junior Dan Mokrzycki struck out 10 in the Wildcat win.

West Suburban Gold

Hinsdale South (7-3; 4-2) blasted Downers Grove South 13-4 on Tuesday. Illinois State-bound Sean Beesley led the Hornet attack with three hits and two RBI. Hornet junior Matt Reschke drove in three for HS with a pair of hits. Hornet RHP PJ Schuster picked up the win on the mound fro the WSC-Gold leaders.

West Suburban Silver

Glenbard West (10-4; 4-2) completed its sweep of Hinsdale Central 3-2 on a GW single by Hilltopper winning pitcher junior Dan Simoneit.

Nonconference

No. 1 Mount Carmel (15-0) routed Payton 13-3 in six innings. Junior Jeremy Kravetz (3-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Caravan. Junior 2B Beau Filkins doubled, tripled and plated two Caravan runs.

No. 2 St. Laurence (15-1) defeated St. Francis de Sales (KY) 5-3 behind senior Joe Siebenaler. Siebenaler fired three scoreless innings to pick up the win on the mound. At the plate, the senior homered, doubled and drove home three Viking runs.

No. 4 Oak Park (10-1) swept away Leyden 6-0.

No. 5 Providence (11-3) got a big two-run bomb in the sixth from University of Notre Dame-bound Zak Kutsulis. University of Notre Dame-bound RHP David Hearne (4-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Celtics.

No. 7 Marian Catholic (7-2) and senior LHP Bret Lilek (3-1) lost to Miami, Florida’s Westminster Christian 5-1 on Tuesday. Westminster Christian (15-4) is the alma mater of New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez. Former Minnesota Twin 2B Chuck Knoblauch also is also an alum of WC.

No. 10 Marist (9-3) smashed North Hills Christian (NC) 10-0 in five innings. The Redhawks were thumped 12-4 by Stanford (SC) later in the day on Tuesday.

De La Salle (9-6) slipped past Lake View 3-1 behind Meteor junior RHP Ricardo Ramirez. Ramirez went the distance with 13 strikeouts on Tuesday. Matt Ramirez had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI. Meteor C Glen Kubek went deep for the CCL-White Division leaders.

Fenwick (9-4) defeated Covenant Christian (LA) 9-5 on Tuesday. Friar senior Scot Reither had a two-run single and Friar CF Jim Sweeny had two hits and two RBI.

Hersey (9-1) hammerd Loyola 7-2 on Tuesday. Huskie starting pitcher Pat Nix fired a complete-game gem at the Ramblers. Huskie Sean Rezutko led the Hersey attack with two hits and three RBI.

Red-hot St. Viator (10-4) edged Schaumburg 8-7 on Tuesday. Senior Cosimo Cannella led SV with three hits abd two RBI. Senior Joe Rossi chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBI.
