Catholic League Crossovers

No. 1 Mt. Carmel (18-0; 6-0 Blue) slipped past De La Salle 2-1 on senior Frank Kelly’s RBI single in the sixth inning. Junior Jason Gasser (4-0) fired a two -hitter at De La Salle (10-8; 4-4 White)

No. 2 St. Laurence (19-1; 6-0 Blue) crushed St. Joseph 13-1 in five innings. Viking senior RF Mike Solofra went deep and had three RBI and senior 1B Brandon Mallder had two doubles and two RBI as the Vikings kept pace in the Catholic Blue. Junior RHP Zach Lewis (5-0) allowed one hit in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for the Vikings.

No. 6 Providence (13-4; 5-0 Blue) blanked Gordon Tech 7-0 behind a 10-strikeout performance from Bradley-bound Brady Wilkin. The future Brave also had a solo-homer. Sophomore Dylan Rosa had two hits and three RBI to lead the Celtics.

Brother Rice (14-5; 5-1 Blue) stayed in contention with a 9-5 crossover win over St. Ignatius behind Brian McQuillan, who had two hits and two RBI.

St. Rita (13-5; 5-1 Blue) smashed Fenwick 7-2 behind Mike Constanzo (5-1), who fired a two-hit effort over six innings against the Friars.

Loyola (8-13; 5-1 Blue) defeated Bishop McNamara 6-2 to stay in the Catholic Blue race.

Central State 8

Chatham Glenwood (12-5; 8-2) rallied past Sacred Heart-Griffin 3-2 at South Park in Chatham on Wednesday. Senior Alex Bee singled home the tying run and senior Nathan Prindle won it with a walk-off single. Bee (3-1) went the distance to pick up the win on the mound for the Titans. The win was No. 699 in the illustrious career of Titan head coach Pat Moomey. The Titans travel to Morton (14-3) on Friday as Moomey will go after No. 700. SHG falls to (9-7; 6-2)

DuPage Valley

Wheaton North (12-6; 6-0) swept away West Chicago 9-1 behind Falcon junior River Williams. Williams scattered eight hits in his 6 1/3 inning performance to pick up the win on the mound, and helped himself by going deep once among his three hits and driving home a pair of Falcon runs.  Fellow junior CF Ryan Kent had a big-four hit day, including two doubles and drove in two Falcon runs.

Glenbard North (10-6; 5-1) nipped Glenbard East 2-1 behind a six hitter from Panther junior Joe Polowy. Panther sophomore Joe LaPage had a double and an RBI to lead the GN attack.

Naperville Central (10-6; 5-1) outslugged West Aurora 12-7 to complete the sweep. Redhawk junior Jimmy Nashert picked up the win on the mound and had three hits including a double. Nashert also plated a pair of Redhawk runs. Senior SS Nick Ryan fell a triple short of the cycle and had three RBI to help the Redhawks keep pace with Wheaton North and Glenbard North in the DVC race.

Jackie Robinson North

Lane Tech (8-9; 5-0) surprised previously unbeaten Taft 3-1 in the JR-North showdown on Wednesday. Indian RHP Jack McLaughlin (3-4) fired a three-hitter at the Eagles and his battery-mate C Alex Sheehan tripled home a pair of runs for the JR-North co- leaders. Taft falls to (18-1; 4-1)

Clemente (10-1-1; 5-0) kept pace with Lane Tech with a 8-3 win over Von Steuben.

Jackie Robinson South

No. 13 Simeon (13-5; 3-1) beat Curie 11-0 in five innings. Oakland University-bound LHP Shane Brown (4-1) fired a five-inning no-no at the Condors. Brown struck out 15 hitters and walked two.

Metro Suburban

Illiana Christian (13-5; 5-0) defeated Timothy Christian 5-1 behind an eight-hitter from Viking senior Travis Jabaay (3-1). Viking junior 3B Josh VanBeek had three hits and drove home a pair of runs. Sophomore 1B Caleb Johnson chipped in with two hits and two RBI for the MSC leaders.

Mid-Illini

Washington (18-2; 8-0) slipped past Pekin 2-1 in eight innings on Wednesday.

Morton (14-3; 5-1) beat Bartonville Limestone 5-3 on a grand-slam from Matt Hungate. Limestone falls to (14-3; 5-1)

Mid-Suburban East

Elk Grove (12-5; 4-1) blasted Wheeling 10-0 in five innings. Grenadier junior 3B Mike Anciulis led the MSL East leaders with a huge six-RBI performance on Wednesday.

Buffalo Grove (8-11; 3-2) swept away No. 9 Hersey 3-0 behind a four-hitter from Bison Jeremy Berger (4-0). Berger was the winning pitcher for BG in both of the Bison wins over the Huskies. Senior Eric Froemming had the big hit for BG when he tripled home a pair of runs. Hersey falls (12-3; 3-2)

Prospect (6-10; 3-2) ambushed Rolling Meadows (11-6; 3-2) again, this by a 10-5 final. Junior C Zach Tuczak led the Knight attack with four RBI. Sophomore Tommy Flahaven chipped in with three ribbies for the surging Knights.

Mid-Suburban West

Fremd (10-7; 3-2) defeated Barrington 4-3 on Wednesday behind Viking Keith Giagnorio. Giagnorio came up with a clutch two-run walk off single in the bottom of the seventh to send Viking Nation home happy on Wednesday night. Barrington falls to (12-5; 3-2)

Mississippi Valley

Troy-Triad (12-3; 4-0) slipped past Jerseyville 6-5 on Wednesday.

North Suburban Lake

No.7 Mundelein (18-2; 6-0) blanked Warren 7-0 behind senior Matt Langlie (5-1). Langlie fired a four-hitter at the Blue Devils with nine strikeouts. Mustang junior Will Farmer tripled with the bases loaded and senior Brian Wiener went deep for the NSC-Lake leaders. 

Lake Zurich (12-7; 3-3) defeated Libertyville 5-3 on Wednesday behind senior LHP Wyatt Spector. Spector fanned an even dozen Wildcat hitters in 5 1/3 innings of work to pick up the win. Bear senior Sean Eder doubled home a pair of runs for LZ. Junior Tanner Kiser had three singles and plated a Bear run. Libertyville falls to (11-5; 3-1).

Northern Illinois Big 12-East

Yorkville (11-6; 5-0) smashed Rochelle 13-0 in five innings. Senior Mitch Prickett had a pair of hits and two RBI to lead the NIB-12 East leaders.

South Suburban Blue

Bremen (13-9; 5-2) crushed TF South 9-2 behind a five-hitter from Brave sophomore Tyler Banovich (5-0). Seniors Eric West and Noel Sanders each had two hits and two RBI for the Braves.

Lemont (9-7; 5-2) blanked Hillcrest 10-0 in five innings. Sophomore Jake Latz homered and drove home three Indian runs. Junior Alex Broskovetz had two hits and plated three Indian runs.

Suburban Christian Gold

Aurora Christian (11-5; 4-2) defeated Guerin 8-3 behind an almost cycle performance by senior Josh Haugen. Haugen doubled tripled and went deep in his three at bats. Haugen drove home three Eagle runs. Senior Kenny McCracken also went deep and drove home two runs. McCracken picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles.

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East (9-5; 7-2) blanked Elgin 9-0 behind a two-hit shutout from Fighting Saint senior Kyle Maske.

St. Charles North (8-7; 5-3) blanked Larkin 2-0 behind a one-hitter from North Star RHP Carl Formento (2-1)  

Batavia (9-6; 6-3) defeated Streamwood 6-2 behind junior Nick Pappas, who picked up the win on the mound. Bulldog senior C Steve Durham came through with a big two-run single for the Batavia game-winner.

Upstate 8 Valley

South Elgin (11-2; 8-1) blasted East Aurora again 10-2 behind a three-hitter from Storm junior Alex Wolfe (2-0). Wolfe fanned nine Tomcat hitters. Junior Andy Weedman had a double and a bomb for SE. Senior Jake Buhman had a perfect 3-for 3 day just falling a triple short of hitting for the cycle.

Neuqua Valley (12-5; 8-1) smashed Bartlett 12-0 behind a no-hitter from Wildcat junior RHP David Gerber (3-0). Gerber struck out eight in his five-inning masterpiece.

Gerber’s batterymate junior C Dylan Goss drove home three Wildcat runs with a double and a single. Wildcat junior Matt Wollnik also drove home three runs and senior Tanner Giesel chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

Nonconference

Manteno (21-1) beat Clifton Central 14-0 in five innings. Panther sophomore Billy Liss (2-0) and senior Nate Page combined for a no-no in Clifton on Wednesday. Judson College-bound 2B Mark Reardanz had four hits and drove home three runs. Junior Jason Morgan had three hits, including a grand-slam bomb and drove home four Panther runs.

Glenbard South (11-7) stunned No. 18 Andrew 13-3 on Wednesday. Raider Devon Blake had four hits, including a bomb and drove in four GBS runs.  Andrew falls to 13-5.

Geneva (12-3) outslugged Glenbard West 10-8 on Wednesday behind NIU-bound Matt Williams and Stetson-bound Matt Brandys. Williams had two hits and drove home three for the Vikings. The future Hatter Brandys, chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

New Trier (9-4) beat Stevenson 7-2 behind Northwestern-bound CF Josh Perlmutter. The future Wildcat CF hit a pair of bombs and plated four Trevian runs.

Mount Vernon (16-5) crushed Breese Central 13-1 in five innings. Ram junior Colton Meador had a perfect 4-fo-r4 day for MV. Meador drove home two Ram runs. Junior Hayden Poninski had two hits and drove in three Ram runs. Junior Zane Xanders (3-0) went the distance for MV.
