Chicagoland Open: Catcher Analysis

The Chicagoland Open took place on Sunday, August 21st at The MAX in McCook, IL.  Following the event the PBR scouting staff compiled all of the notes from the workout and over the next week we will break down the event position by position.

Today we begin the analysis of the event taking a look at the catchers in attendance. Out of the 50 or so prospects at the event, only three of them were catchers.

Scouting reports of the the three catchers are listed below:

Catchers (Listed Alphabetically)

Jake McKendry, C, Providence Catholic, 2019
6-foot-2, 170-pound catcher, thin build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, average balance. Level path, flat finish, 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 77 mph out of the crouch, loose action with occasional carry. Pop times ranged 2.29-2.51. Ran a 7.99 in the 60.

Emilio Rosa, C, West Aurora, 2019
5-foot-6, 145-pound catcher. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, good balance with simple approach. Average bat speed for age, path works uphill, looks to lift, 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm played short out of the crouch, 65 mph. Pop times ranged 2.35-2.44. Ran an 8.12 60 yard dash.

Blake Sayles, C, Joliet Catholic, 2018
5-foot-10, 190-pounds, squared strong bodied catcher. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg lift stride. Showed bat strength, path has length on uphill plane, 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 8.09 runner in the 60. Posted pop times at 2.19-2.33, clean exchange, arm played short and over the top at 72 mph.
