Chicagoland Open: Preview Story

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

UPDATE

The event will be moving indoors to The MAX in McCook, IL due to the heavy thunderstorms that moved through the Schaumburg area this morning. Boomers Stadium is unplayable for tomorrow.

The address at The MAX is 4750 S. Vernon Ave McCook, IL, 60525

Metal spikes or molded spikes are allowed on the turf playing surface at The MAX. If you are a pitcher bring both molded cleats/turf shoes and metal cleats. Pitcher’s will be allowed to wear metal spikes, as the bullpen mounds are dirt/clay.

The Chicagoland Open is known for being the coming out party for a number of players. At last year’s Chicagoland Open RHP Austin Marozas (Plainfield South) opened eyes with his 6-foot-7 frame and easy upper 80’s fastball. Marozas is now ranked No. 1 in the Illinois 2017 class and recently committed to the University of Kentucky.

Last year’s event also featured 2018’s Tyler Acosta (Barrington), Jordon Rogers (Simeon) and Anthony Herron (Simeon). All three stood out at the event and were ultimately selected for this summer’s Future Games.

Two years ago, slick middle infielder Ryan King (Brother Rice, 2017) a Michigan State recruit and 6-foot-5, 185-pound right-handed pitcher Jordan Walden (Reed-Custer, 2016), an Eastern Illinois recruit, were both in attendance.

A year before that, RHP Brady Corrigan (Plainfield North) made the 2013 Chicagoland Open his first PBR event. Corrigan, an Arizona State commit is currently ranked No. 7 in the 2017 Illinois Class.

This year’s roster hopes to produce much of the same. For a look at the complete roster CLICK HERE.
