CLASS 2A SUPER- SECTIONALS ROUNDUP

SAUGET SUPER-SECTIONAL

No. 7 Teutopolis 5, Carlyle 2
Teutopolis (28-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run bomb to right from SIU-bound Kyle Pruemer, to break up a 2-2 battle and go on to defeat Carlyle (26-7) in Sauget on Monday. With the win, the Wooden Shoes return to O’Brien Field in Peoria for a semifinal matchup with Lisle (21-10-1) around 4 o’clock on Friday. T-Town will be gunning for its third Class 2A crown in four years.

In the Wooden Shoe’s fifth, T-town leadoff man RHP Jared Waldhoff ripped a triple and scored on an RBI single from Chase Wendling, for a 3-2 Wooden Shoe lead. After the first out of the inning, the future hard-hitting Saluki launched a shot over the right-field fence.

Waldhoff went the distance, firing a two-hitter at the Indians with six strikeouts. Teutopolis won the Class 2A title in 2010 & 2011 and lost in the Robinson Sectional Championship Game to Cinderella Trenton-Wesclin in 2012.

BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY SUPER-SECTIONAL

Lisle 5, Beecher 4
Lisle (21-10-1) slipped past Beecher to advance to O’Brien Field in Peoria for a Class 2A semifinal date with No. 7 Teutopolis (29-3), on Friday around 4. Junior Jake Oard’s sac-fly in the bottom of the fourth gave the Lions a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. Junior SS Cliff Krause added a huge insurance run in the fifth when he hammered an RBI double to give Lisle a 4-2 lead. The Lions would pick up an unearned run, which proved to be the game-winner later in the inning.

Senior LHP Ryan Van Volkenburg allowed an unearned run in his two innings of relief to nail down the save for Lion winning pitcher senior LHP Alex Ventrella (6-1)

U OF I SUPER-SECTIONAL

Pleasant Plains 10, St. Joseph Ogden 2
Pleasant Plains (27-9) scored five runs in the first and four more in the second, to dispose of St. Joseph Ogden (26-8) and win the Class 2A U of I Super-Sectional. With the win the Cardinal will play in the second Class 2A semifinal around 7 on Friday at O’Brien Field in Peoria. Plains will meet the winner of the Augustana Super-Sectional. Eureka (24-10) and Cinderella Oregon (15-14) will square off in Rock Island on Tuesday at 6.

Senior LHP Ben Sprague (9-2) fired a five-hitter at SJ-O with four strikeouts. Sophomore Dylan Bee singled doubled and plated four Cardinal runs while senior Taylor Staff singled tripled and had three RBI to leads Plains to Peoria.
