Class 4A Regional Championship Games

McHenry Sectional

Wednesday 4:30 Rockton Hononegah (27-9) vs. South Elgin (20-12)

Thursday     4:30 No. 24 Crystal Lake South (28-9) vs. Grant (22-12)

Machesney Park Harem Regional Final

Rockton Hononegah (27-9) rallied to knock off No. 15 Rockford Boylan 5-3. Hononegah’s white-hot Max Frost did it again, breaking up a 3-3 with a clutch two-run single for the Indians.

Elgin Larkin Regional Final

 South Elgin (20-12) defeated Elgin 4-3 in eight innings on a walk-off single by Storm senior Jake Buhman. 

Huntley Regional Final

No. 24 Crystal Lake South (28-9) slid past Jacobs 3-2 as Gator senior RHP Jordan Van Dyck improved to 11-1. Van Dyck fired a four-hitter with nine strikeouts at the Golden Eagles. Gator senior Dom Winiecki singled and homered with two RBI to lead the Gator attack.

McHenry Regional Final

Grant (22-11) beat Cary-Grove 4-2

Schaumburg Sectional (Schaumburg Boomer Stadium)

Wed 5:00 Willowbrook (22-15) vs. Bartlett (19-19)

Wed 7:30 St. Charles East (25-10) vs. Schaumburg (25-12)

Lake Park Regional Final

Bartlett (20-19) beat Lake Park 5-3.

Wheaton North Regional Final

Willowbrook (22-15) beat Addison Trail 5-1 behind a complete-game gem by Warrior senior RHP Alex Tiberi.

York Regional Final

Schaumburg (25-12) defeated St. Charles North 4-2.

St. Charles East Regional Final

St. Charles East (26-10) defeated Glenbard East 5-3.

Evanston Sectional

Wednesday 4:30 No. 5 Maine South (31-4) vs. Niles West (26-10)

Thursday     4:30 No. 21 New Trier (26-10) vs. Oak Park (26-10-1)

Maine West Regional Final

No.5 Maine South (31-4) defeated district-rival Maine West 3-2 in 10 thrilling innings. Hawk senior RHP Pat Aloisio (10-1) finished what he started, going all 10 innings for Maine South. Aloisio allowed no earned runs and four hits. Senior 3B Keenan Kelly sent the large Hawk contingent back to Park Ridge very happy when he singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th. University of Notre Dame-bound CF Kyle Richardson had two hits and an RBI for the Hawks.

Niles West Regional Final

Niles West (26-10) defeated Leyden 6-0 as Wolves junior Kyle Colletta (10-1) fired a six-hit shutout at the Eagles.

Loyola Regional Final

No. 21 New Trier (26-10) slid past Loyola 2-1 on a two-run bomb from Elon University-bound Chris Hall. Penn State-bound lefty Nick Hedge (11-1) went the distance for New Trier.

Oak Park Regional Final

Oak Park (26-9-1) slipped past Evanston 2-1 behind senior RHP Joe McKune, who picked up the win on the mound for the Huskies. Huskie ace LHP Zack Weigel nailed down the save.

Glenbrook South Sectional

Wednesday 4:30: No. 4 Mundelein (32-4) vs. Palatine (18-19)

Thursday     4:30: Stevenson (22-13) vs. Warren Regional Winner

Mundelein Regional Final

No. 4 Mundelein (33-4) defeated Fremd 7-3 behind senior Jared Mandel (11-1), who fired a complete-game gem at the Vikings. Butler University-bound Chris Maranto went deep for the Mustangs. 

Palatine Regional Final

Palatine (18-19) surprised Libertyville 6-3.

Stevenson Regional Final

Stevenson (22-13) beat Glenbrook North 7-2.

Warren Regional Final-Monday at 10

Carmel (20-10) vs. Highland Park (17-19)  

Mount Carmel Sectional.

Wednesday 4:30 No. 7 St. Laurence (30-6-1) vs. Lyons Township (23-12-1)

Fenwick Regional Final

No. 7 St. Laurence (30-6-1) crushed Whitney Young 9-0 behind Viking junior Kevin Smith. Smith (8-1) fired a two-hitter at the Dolphins and helped himself with a homer and three RBI. Sophomore Brad Wood chipped in with three hits and two RBI.

Reavis Regional Final

Defending Class 4A State Champion Lyons Township (23-12-1) destroyed Morton West 12-2 in five innings

Mount Carmel Regional Final

No.6 Mount Carmel (31-5) shutout Oak Lawn 6-0, behind a three-hitter from senior RHP Tyler Laurish (10-3). Laurish had a big day at the plate for the Caravan with three hits and three RBI.

St. Rita Regional Final

No.16 St. Rita (24-12) rallied past Brother Rice 6-3 behind junior Connor McClain’s clutch two-run single. Fellow junior Anthony Ray tripled home a run for the Mustangs and Louisville University-bound C Zack Soria had an RBI single.

Andrew Sectional

Wednesday 4:30: Providence (29-7) vs. Marist (25-11) 4:30

Thursday     4:30: Lincoln-Way North (32-5) vs. H-F (22-11)

Providence Regional Final

No. 3 Providence (29-7) blasted Lincoln-Way East 10-2. (See Drake Skleba’s story)

Richards Regional Final

Marist (25-11) scored six runs in the first and never looked back as the Redhawks rolled past Andrew 11-0.

Lincoln-Way North Regional Final

No. 2 Lincoln-Way North (32-5) blanked Lockport 4-0 (See Sean Duncan’s story)  

Homewood-Flossmoor Regional Final

Homewood-Flossmoor (22-11) defeated Sandburg 6-4 behind Heartland Community College-bound LHP Danny Lietz (8-4). Lietz fired a six-hitter with seven strikeouts against the Eagles.  Viking senior Elon Chamberlain’s two-out, two-run single broke up a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh and proved to be the game-winning hit for the Vikings. Viking senior C David Stern had three hits including a solo-shot in the third inning.

University of Illinois Super-Sectional

Illinois Wesleyan Sectional

Wednesday 6:00: Minooka (24-13) vs. Moline (23-13)

Wednesday TBA:  No. 11 O’ Fallon (30-7) vs. Edwardsville (27-9)

Minooka Regional Final

Minooka (24-13) senior TJ Condon’s, walk-off single scored fellow senior Alex Bebar with the game-winner, as the Indians beat Plainfield South 2-1.  

Pekin Regional Final

Moline (23-13) defeated Normal Community 8-2 behind senior ace RHP Andrew Rangel (7-0). Rangel fired an eight-hitter at the Ironmen. The Maroons exploded for five runs in the first and coasted to the regional championship win.

Granite City Regional Final

Edwardsville (27-9) won its rubber-match with Alton (23-9) clubbing the Redbirds 6-2

Belleville West Regional Final

No.11 O’Fallon (30-7) defeated Belleville West 2-1 in nine innings. Winning pitcher Sam Hopkins hit a triple in the ninth, then scored on a suicide squeeze from Jake Warren for the game-winner.

Romeoville Sectional

Wednesday 4:30 No. 4 Plainfield North (32-4) vs. Naperville C. (25-12)

Thursday     4:30 No. 24 Neuqua Valley (30-7) vs. Metea Valley (18-18)

Plainfield North Regional Final

No. 8 Plainfield North (32-4) escaped past Benet Academy 3-2 on a walk-off double by red-hot Tiger senior Caleb Kissell. Tiger junior RHP Brendan Miller (10-0) fired a six-hitter at the Redwings.

Downers Grove South Regional Final

Naperville Central (25-12) defeated Downers Grove South 5-1 behind a four-hitter from junior RHP Jimmy Nashert. Nashert helped himself with two RBI.

Bolingbrook Regional Final

No. 19 Neuqua Valley (30-7) slipped past Bolingbrook 4-3, behind a three-run bomb from Wildcat junior Jeff Evak. Evak’s blast in the fifth made a winner of fellow-junior RHP David Gerber (8-0). Gerber fired a five-hitter at the Raiders.

Waubonsie Valley Regional Final

Metea Valley (18-18) shocked No. 15 Hinsdale South 5-1 behind Mustang seniors Billy Sheeren and Mike Mooney. Sheeren fired a four-hitter at the Hornets and Mooney plated three runs for Metea who will face arch-rival Neuqua Valley for the fourth time in the sectional semifinal.
