On Oct. 18, the PBR Illinois staff welcomed participating juniors to this open event in the Chicagoland area: the Class of 2022 Showcase. Over 130 players in the state’s 2022 class ventured to The MAX complex in McCook to perform in front of our staff, helping us gain a greater understanding of Illinois’ junior class, and nearly all of these players remain uncommitted.

We previously published analysis from the event in the days that followed, in the form of our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis posts. Our position-by-position scouting reports started to roll last week, with the event’s catchers, outfielders, and infielders. We’re beginning to conclude our showcase analysis by publishing reports on all of the day’s pitchers before ranking the top overall players at this event tomorrow, Tuesday.

Pacing the group, one of the state’s top-ranked juniors: LHP Julien Hachem (Mount Carmel; Oklahoma commit). Hachem’s huge 6-foot-8, 230-pound, physical frame makes for an intimidating at-bat, and he has the velocity, spin, and extension to capitalize on it. He recorded the day’s single highest fastball velo, at 89.4 mph, at an average spin rate of 2,469 rpm with big carry through the zone.

Fellow southpaw Dylan Warda (Brother Rice) is due to make a prominent push up the state rankings after his work at this event. Warda’s loose, live arm reached an 88 mph high from a high slot, and he backed it up with a short, aggressive breaking ball and straight change that tunneled well.

Hachem’s brother Elias (uncommitted) made noteworthy gains in a short period of time to emerge as one of this event’s biggest winners. Still on the market, Elias has powerful potential. Hachem is obviously built at a similar, physical stature and he, too, can get to upper-80s velocity. At this event, he showed a greater feel for the zone while also mixing in more consistent offspeed. The improvements he’s made inside his arsenal have him reemerging as one of the state’s top uncommitted players.

2. Dylan Warda, Brother Rice (IL), 2022

Body: 6-3, 185-pounds.
Delivery: Tall and fall, balanced delivery, stays tall on back side, works directional with closed landing, repeatable.
Arm Action: LH. Quick separation out of the glove, loose lively arm action, works out of high 3/4 slot.
FB: T88, 87-88 mph. Four seam life through the zone, works mostly straight with above average finish.
CB: 73-75 mph. Thrown aggressive with 1/7 shape, hard breaking ball with feel for the zone and average depth.
CH: 80-82 mph. Straight change with occasional sink action.

3. Elias Hachem, Mount Carmel (IL), 2022

Body: 6-7, 230-pounds. Extra large frame, strong sturdy build.
Delivery: High lift and and load, lands square down the hill, some effort working behind the baseball.
Arm Action: RH. Long draw out of the glove, clean path, high 3/4 slot.

CB: 68-72 mph. Improved breaking ball, aggressive approach and above average feel, fastball arm speed. Consistently landed for strikes.

Delivery: Tall and fall delivery with little effort, works in line with squared landing, finishes to third base side.
Arm Action: LH. Live arm, loose and quick, projectable out of a high 3/4 slot.
