Digging In: TCU Continues Lake County (IL) Pipeline

3B/RHP Cal Coughlin (Lake Forest HS, IL), who was the highest ranked uncommitted 2016 prospect in the PBR coverage area, finally made his college decision this week, choosing Texas Christian over several suitors. As one of the top two-way prospects in the country, Coughlin’s commitment to TCU continues the trend of top-level players from Lake County – located in the northern suburbs of Chicago – heading south to Fort Worth.
Starting with LHP Alex Young (Carmel Catholic HS, IL) in 2012, the Horned Frogs have landed four highly ranked prospects all within eight miles of each other. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Coughlin actually attended Carmel during his first two years of high school before transferring back to his neighborhood public high school, Lake Forest, this year.
Coughlin said he first met Young entering his freshman year at a Carmel baseball camp. “Alex was helping with the pitching at the camp. I thought it was really cool that he was going to TCU.”
A month ago, sophomore Brad Czerniejewski, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound outfielder from Lake Forest HS, verbally committed to TCU over Stanford. Czerniejewski, who’s one of the top 2017 prospects in the country, and Coughlin will not only be playing together the next two years at Lake Forest, they will eventually be teammates in college … if they both make it to campus ...
