Forde Steals The Show In Fenwick Victory

CHICAGO, IL- In the championship game of the Von Steuben Regional, Fenwick defeated New Trier 2-1 in nine innings. The pitching duel between Quinn Snarskis of Fenwick and Ben Brecht of New Trier lived up to the hype, but it was Kevin Forde who stole the show.
With the Friars trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth Ryan Pierson walked to lead off the inning, after a sac bunt and a lineout Forde stepped to the plate. Forde hit a line drive past a leaping third baseman to drive in the tying run.
Fast forward to the top of the ninth, Forde again stepping to the plate with runners in scoring position. This time he drove a ball up the middle that was bobbled by the second baseman allowing the go ahead run to score.
With a 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth the Friars looked to ride Quinn Snarskis for the victory. The first two New Trier hitters reached in ninth courtesy of a hit by pitch and an error. Who did the Friars go with to close out the game? None other than Kevin Forde. Forde inherited men on first and second and no outs. Forde promptly struck out the side to seal the victory for the Friars.
Forde came out firing working 88-89 mph with his fastball, complimented by a 74-76 mph hammer curveball. Forde was able to strikeout the first two hitters he faced looking on curveballs. Forde struck out hot hitting Jake Reynolds, who was 2-3 on the day, for the final out.
Ben Brecht and Quinn Snarskis both had excellent performances on the day. Brecht worked seven inning allowing just four hits while striking out eight for the no decision. Snarskis worked eight plus innings allowing eight hits and striking out nine. Snarksis worked his way into a couple of jams, but came through with a big strikeout when he needed it.
New Trier scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Jake Reynolds doubled to lead off the inning, and then came around to score on a single from Matt Boscow.
Fenwick improves to 26-7 on the season. The Friars move on to the Niles West sectional, and take on Evanston, Wednesday at 4:30. New Trier finishes the season with a record of 21-10-1.
