HUNTLEY, IL - The Huntley Red Raiders used a five-run sixth inning to pull away from Hampshire for the 7-2 victory on Monday afternoon at Huntley High School.

Hampshire put the pressure on Huntley from the get-go with a leadoff single by Andrew Krajecki. Krajecki would steal second and then come around to score on an error. The scoring did not stop there, Nicholas Tenny drove in Trevor Laffin to extend the lead to 2-0 after one half inning.  Huntley answered back though as Matt Rodriguez knocked in Hunter Rumachik to make it 2-1 Hampshire after one inning.

Both pitchers would settle in after a rough start to the game. Huntley’s Kyle Morgan threw five consecutive scoreless innings before being relieved for the seventh inning by Grant Yakimisky. Morgan pitched six innings, allowing zero earned runs, two runs, six hits, while striking out four and walking none.

Hampshire’s Matt Jachec was in cruise control for three innings before Huntley’s offense came to life. Rumachik connected on a two-out double to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Huntley came back in the sixth inning to score five runs, all with two outs. With a man on and two outs in the inning, Zach Model worked an 0-2 count to a walk and shifted the momentum to the Red Raiders. Pinch hitter Anthony Zak put Huntley up with an RBI single, and the next three batters would reach base. In the end, five Huntley players would com across to score in the inning, making it 7-2.

Yakimisky came on for the seventh inning to shut the door, and did just that. The Huntley closer allowed one hit while striking out two. Rumachik led Huntley offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

In a losing effort, Jachec went six innings, surrendering eight hits, seven runs, three earned runs, while striking out four and walking three. Jachec also led the Hampshire offense with two hits.
