The 2014 Major League Draft takes place June 5-7. It will begin Thursday evening at 7 p.m. EST with the first day consisting of the first two rounds and competitive balance rounds. The third through 10th rounds will take place on Friday and Rounds 11-40 will happen Saturday. The final two days will start at 1 p.m. EST. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

Illinois’ 2014 class has long been lauded for its catching depth and that hasn’t changed. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus among scouts on how they stack up against each other and no two of the catchers share similar profiles. Mix in a few projectable arms and it makes for a good year in Illinois.

1. Evan Skoug, C, Libertyville HS, IL
The debate on Skoug is whether or not he’ll stick behind the plate, but most scouts seem to push those worries aside as they love his bat. The Texas Christian recruit has a strong, powerful frame at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds with a thick lower half.
