Several 2014 prospects have named their schools recently. A look at who’s going where:

+ Bobby Pennington, who was the top pitching prospect at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in October, has committed to John A. Logan JC. The athletically built 6-foot-4, 195-pound RHP from Maine South HS is currently ranked No. 75 in Illinois’ 2014 class. At the Unsigned Senior Showcase, Pennington sat 86-88 mph with his fastball, to go along with a 71-72 mph curveball and 76-77 changeup.

+ Austin Jetel, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-handed hitting 1B from Fremd HS, has committed to Butler. Currently ranked No. 110 in Illinois’ 2014 class, Jetel enjoyed a meteoric rise in the spring and summer, proving to be one of the better left-handed hitting prospects in the state. At the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase last February, Jetel ran a 7.18 60 and registered an 83 mph exit velocity.

+ Zach Girard, a versatile C/INF from Dundee-Crown HS, has committed to Wayne State in Michigan. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Girard, who’s currently ranked No. 121 in Illinois’ 2014 class, ran a 6.89 60 and fired consistent 2.01-2.11 pop times at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in June.

+ Justin Freeman, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound RHP from Rich Central HS, has committed to Southern University. Freeman, who’s the son of longtime former MLB right-hander Marvin Freeman, is currently ranked No. 163 in Illinois’ 2014 class.

+ Cully Day, a left-handed hitting OF from Mahomet-Seymour HS, has committed to Parkland College. The 6-foot, 172-pound Day is currently ranked No. 201 in Illinois’ 2014 class.

+ Nick Senicka, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound LHP from Hinsdale Central HS, has committed to Illinois-Springfield. Senicka recently showed well at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in October, when he sat 80-82 mph with his fastball.

+ Troy Cantu, a 2B from Huntley HS, has committed to Illinois-Springfield. The 5-foot-7, 155-pound Cantu ran a 7.15 60 at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase last June.
