Catholic Blue

No. 6 Mount Carmel (26-4; 12-4) slipped past No. 22 St. Rita 5-4 on Monday. Caravan senior RHP Tyler Laurisch (9-2) fired a five-hitter at the Mustangs. Junior 2B Beau Filkins singled home a big-run for MC. St. Rita falls to (19-11; 9-7).

Catholic White

De La Salle (21-10; 14-5) wrapped up the CCL-White title with a 5-1 win over Gordon Tech behind SIU-Bound RHP Anthony Shimkus (6-3) and sophomore C Glen Kubek, who had a two-run bomb for the Meteors. Senior Scott McGern went deep with a man on, too, for the CCL-White champs. 

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North (22-10; 10-5) clinched a tie for the CSL-North title, with a 9-0 victory over Deerfield behind a three-hitter with eight strikeouts from junior RHP Brad Margolin (8-2). Spartan T.J. Tschida led the GBN attack with two hits and three RBI.

Highland Park (16-16; 9-6) kept its hopes alive for at least a share of the CSL-North crown with an 11-3 win over Maine West on Monday. Sophomore David Hoscheit homered and drove home four for the Giants. Senior Christian Biondi had a perfect 3-for-3 day with three RBI and senior LHP Jake Rubin (7-4) picked up the win on the mound for HP.

Central Suburban South

No. 7 Maine South (25-4; 14-1) defeated Niles West 7-1 behind a five-hitter from Hawk senior RHP Pat Aloisio (9-0). The Hawk senior duo of 3B Keenan Kelly and Iowa-bound C Jimmy Frankos wreaked havoc on the NW pitchers. Kelly doubled three times and drove home three. Frankos doubled twice and plated a pair for the CSL-South champs.

No. 23 Glenbrook South (21-8; 11-4) pounded Evanston 13-2 in five innings behind junior Max Cohen, who had a perfect 4-for-4 day with four RBI for the Titans.

New Trier (19-9; 10-5) hammered Waukegan 10-2 behind Trevian sophomore  Miles Link’s three hits and three RBI. Sophomore Andrew Hrabe (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for NT.

East Suburban Catholic

No.2 Joliet Catholic Academy (25-6-1;13-2) hammered No. 21 Nazareth 8-2 behind senior RHP Nate Searing to clinch at least a tie for the ESCC crown. Searing fired a three-hitter with eight strikeouts at the Roadrunners (22-6; 6-5). Searing helped himself at the plate with a pair of RBI. 1B Ryan Peter chipped in with two hits and two RBI and sophomore 2B Rilen Bannon had two hits and an RBI.

Mid-Illini

Morton (27-7; 11-2) blanked East Peoria 4-0 behind a combined shutout from Jared Holloman and Illinois State-bound Will Headen. Potter Christian Dullard continued to hammer the baseball with three hits and three RBI.

Bartonville Limestone (22-6; 11-2) slipped past Metamora 5-3 on Monday night. Rocket senior Jake Light (10-0) fired a four-hitter at the Redbirds with 10 strikeouts. No. 24 Washington (24-6; 10-3) trails Morton and Limestone with one game remaining in the M-I race.

Mid-Suburban East

Hersey (24-7; 11-5) wrapped up the MSL-East with a thrilling come-from-behind 2-1 win in Arlington Heights over Schaumburg on Monday.

Miami of Ohio-bound Tyler Perkowitz sent Huskie Nation into orbit with his clutch two-run walk-off single to vault the Huskies into the MSL Championship game against Fremd (18-13) on Friday.

Prospect (15-18; 9-7) blanked Conant 5-0 behind a three-hitter from Illinois State-bound RHP Jake Lanwehr (6-3). Landwehr fanned 10 Cougar hitters.

Mid-Suburban West

Fremd (18-13; 11-5) crushed Wheeling 17-2 in five-innings to wrap up the West and give the Vikings a berth in Friday’s MSL Championship Game in Palatine at 4:30.

North Suburban Lake

No. 5 Mundelein (27-4; 10-1) wrapped up the NSC-Lake with a 6-3 win over Stevenson. Mustang senior Jared Mandel (9-1) struck out eight Patriot hitters in his solid 6 2/3 inning stint on Monday. Butler-bound Chris Maranto went deep with a man aboard for the 5th-ranked Mustangs.

North Suburban Prairie

NSC-Prairie champ Vernon Hills (24-6; 9-2) defeated Lakes 4-2 on Monday.

The Cougars will meet NSC-Lake Division Champion No. 5 Mundelein (27-4; 10-1) in the NSC-Championship game at Vernon Hills on Thursday at 4:30. 

N. Illinois Big-12 West

Ottawa (23-8; 12-2) smashed Sterling 10- 2 behind Pirate junior CF Miguel Hermosillo. The fleet-footed junior drove home three runs with a perfect 2-for-2 day against the Golden Warriors of Sterling.

After 31 games, Hermosillo has compiled All-State-type stats:  BA .507, OB .613, SLG .958. 5 HR, 7 2B, 5 3B, 30 RBI, 27 R, 20 BB. He has also pilfered 25-30 bases and has played a great defensive CF.  

On Wednesday at King Field in Ottawa, the NIB-12 West Division championship game will be played when La Salle Peru (24-6; 12-2) invades Ottawa.

NIC-10

Rockton Hononegah (22-9; 14-2) defeated No. 11 Rockford Boylan 1-0 behind a two-hit shutout by Indian RHP Jack Granath. With the win Hononegah stays alive in the NIC-10 race with two games to go. The Indians scored the only run of the game on a Titan error in the second inning. The loss was the first in 20 games for Boylan.

Public League Playoffs

Jackie Robinson South Champ Simeon (23-7) destroyed Chicago Perspectives MSA 13-0 in five innings in the Wolverines first step toward the City Championship. Wolverine Darien Clifton (2-0) struck out five and fired a no-hitter at Perspective MSA. Freshman Terrance Robertson cleared the bases with a booming triple and Oakland University-bound Shane Brown chipped in with a two-run single. Sophomore 2B Ro Coleman scored three runs had a pair of hits and drove home a run for Simeon.

Jackie Robinson North Champ Lane Tech (18-12) romped past Steinmetz

11-1 in five innings behind Indian Rickie Hernandez who had three RBI for LT. 

South Suburban Blue

No. 13 Oak Forest (24-4; 15-2) blanked TF South 5-0 behind a two-hit masterpiece from Bengal Kyle Czeszewski. Czeszewski fanned eight Rebel hitters. Senior Jason Hine drove home a pair for the SCC-Blue leaders.

South Suburban Red

Richards (20-11; 15-3) clinched a tie for the Bulldog’s third consecutive SSC-Red crown with an 11-5 win over Reavis on Monday. 

Oak Lawn (19-10; 14-4) blasted Argo 7-2 behind a four-hitter from senior Nick Mozwecz (7-3). Mozwecz fanned seven Argonauts. Senior C Kyle Smith hit a two-run bomb for the Spartans and Spartan senior Alec Barnhart broke this one open when he doubled with the sacks full.

Southland

SC-Champs Crete-Monee (20-10; 13-1) hammered Rich South 10-0 in five innings on Monday.

Suburban Christian Gold

Aurora Christian (24-8; 11-3) romped past Walther Lutheran 10-1 on Monday. NIU-bound Bobby Kuntzendorf and sophomore Brad Walgren went deep for the Eagles. Sophomore J.T. Baksha (8-2) fired a three-hitter at the Broncos with 10 strikeouts. Valpo-bound Jake Hanson had three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI for the SCC-Gold leaders.

West Suburban Gold

No. 10 Hinsdale South (25-4; 14-2) romped past Proviso East 10-0 in five innings behind Illinois State-bound Sean Beesley (8-0) and DJ Deolitis. Beesley was a double shy of hitting for the cycle and drove home two for the Hornets. Deolitis had three hits, including a bomb and plated three runs for the WSC-Gold champions.

Class 2A Momence Regional

Beecher (18-8) walked past the hosts from Momence 3-2 in eight innings.

Class 2A Richmond-Burton Regional

St. Edward (18-16) defeated North Boone 9-5, behind Green Wave freshman RHP Jake LaFrenz (6-2).

Class 2A Seneca Regional  

Aurora Central Catholic (13-17) defeated Seneca 3-0 behind a four-hit, 11 strikeout performance from Charger RHP Matt Miller (5-4).

Nonconference

In the unofficial S. Illinois River-River championship game, the Ohio Division champs from No. 17 Benton (29-6) exploded for six in the sixth to roll to a 10-3 win over Mississippi champs Anna-Jonesboro (23-9) on Monday in Anna. Ranger senior Mason Childers had a pair of hits, including a double and drove home two Ranger runs.

The Trey Garrett and Ty Leffler Ranger dynamic-duo contributed to the Ranger win. Bradley-bound Leffler tripled twice and drove in a run while Garrett had three hits and plated a Ranger run. Leffler has 50 RBI and his buddy Garrett has 49 - 99 ribbies for the Garrett-Leffler duo in 2012. Freshman Dakota Head (4-2) picked up the win on the mound for the Rangers.
