New Trier Defeats Prospect 7-2

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL- New Trier played a solid all around game in defeating Prospect 7-2 on Saturday morning. A combination of 4 pitchers, small ball, and good base running lead the Trevians to victory. New Trier stole a run in the top of the 2nd when Matt Boscow stole home when Jake Reynolds was picked off first after both singled to leadoff the inning. The Trevians added another run in the 4th thanks to a 2-out RBI single by Designated Hitter Ryan Acri drove in Michael Hurley who leadoff the inning with a walk.

Prospect got back in the game with a run in the bottom of the 3rd. The Knights loaded the bases in the bottom of the 4th thanks to some close calls going against New Trier starter Danny Katz, but with the go ahead run in scoring position he buckled down to get a strikeout and end the threat.

New Trier broke the game open in the top of the 6th sending  9 men to the plate scoring 5 times thanks to a double and 4 singles to take a 7-1 lead and that was all they would need in the 7-2 victory. Danny Katz earned the victory working 4 innings allowing 2 hits and an unearned run. Relievers Ryan Haak, Billy Cremin, and Andrew Earvolino combined for 3 innings of relief striking out 6 allowing just 2 hits and one run. Pat Donohue led Prospect at the plate going 1-4 with an RBI.

New Trier improves to 10-4-1on the year and returns to action Monday at home against Maine East. Prospect drops to 12-4 on the year and returns to action on Monday at home against Wheeling.
