PLAINFIELD, IL – In a crosstown rivalry matchup No. 23 Plainfield South went on the road and defeated No. 12 Plainfield North 7-3 on Monday.

South jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jordan Mikel walked to leadoff the game, and with one away Nick Mayerhofer singled to put two on for Konnor Ash. Ash hit a single to center that got past the centerfielder to score both Mikel and Mayerhofer. Ash then came around to score on a single by Nick Enloe.

The Cougars would never trail the rest of the way. Ash started on the mound and worked 5.2 innings allowing 4 hits, no earned runs, and striking out 9. Ash worked mostly Fastball and slider to get a majority of his strikeouts. His fastball worked at 88 mpg for most of the game touching 90 mph early on in the outing.

North got on the board in the fifth thanks to two errors and RBI singles from Brady Miller and Alex Steinbach. South added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to push the score to 7-3. North loaded the bases off South reliever Eric Fitzmaurice in the bottom of the seventh with one away, but he recorded a strike out and AJ Manucci made a diving catch to close out the win.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet to finish the season series.
