October 11, 2021
On Wednesday October 6th, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to Belleville, Illinois, to host both the Southwestern Illinois College and Kaskaskia JC Scout Days at Southwestern Illinois College.
This joint scout day featured 55+ uncommitted prospects from both teams, giving these players unrivaled access to plenty of data and the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of our staff.
Today, we’ll bring to you a quick statistical analysis of those that participated in the event, as well as a quick nugget on which players stood out. We’ll continue to roll content out from this particular showcase as the week rolls on, so be on the lookout for that.
STAT STORY
+ OF Hunter Bilek of Kaskaskia JC showed both speed and strength during the scout day. Listed at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds the right-handed hitting outfielder ran the best 60-yard time from both teams with a 6.43. He also reached a 97 mph max exit velocity and uncorked an 89 mph bullet to home from the outfield during the defensive portion of his workout.
+ OF Garret Esposito is another toolsy right-handed hitting outfielder from Kaskaskia JC that put up some eye-popping numbers during his workout. A strong 6-foot-1, 180-pound athlete, Esposito showed 6.61 speed in the 60-yard dash and also reached a max exit velocity of 101 mph, which was amongst the event’s best numbers.
+ UTL Chris Akers (Kaskaskia JC) had a strong showing from a statistical standpoint, as the true freshman finished towards the top in infield velocity (87 mph), catcher velocity (76 mph), and led the group in average pop times (1.84-to-1.94) as well.
+ UTL Dylan Perry was a common name among the statistical leaders, finding himself near or at the top of multiple different categories. He kicked his day off by gliding to a 6.75 in the 60-yard dash and followed that up with a 99 mph max exit velocity in BP. Perry took reps in the outfield and infield and recorded an 89 mph high from both spots.
+ OF/CIF Bronx Lewis (Kaskaskia JC) oozes upside inside a lanky 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame and the level of athleticism he has at that size suggests an even higher ceiling, too. A left/left prospect, Lewis glided to a 6.68 in the 60-yard dash and used the whippy strength attached to his levers to reach a max exit velocity of 101 mph in BP, averaging 94 mph throughout. He also paced this outfield group in throwing velocity, uncorking a 90 mph bullet to home during his workout.
+ INF/RHP James Denten (Kaskaskia JC) popped as an intriguing two-way follow at this event. The strong 6-foot-1, 205-pound Illinois prep product led the group in max exit velocity, muscling his hardest hit ball up at 105 mph with an average exit velocity of 97.3 mph, which was also an event best. Denten also ran a 6.96 in the 60-yard dash and he hopped on the mound later in the day, bumping his fastball up to 88 mph.
+ Southwestern Illinois' OF Tyson Mickie stood out amongst his peers, stringing together a noteworthy workout amongst a talented bunch. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder had the team’s best 60-yard time and exit velocity. Mickie ran a 6.54 60-yard dash and squared his hardest hit ball up at 103 mph, recording an average exit velocity of 95.4 mph throughout batting practice. He also peaked at 88 mph to home from the outfield.
+ RHP Alex Buchanan of Southwestern Illinois College had the top fastball on the day. Listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds the right-handed pitcher threw a max fastball of 92.06 mph and sat 90-92 mph. Four other arms topped at 90 mph with their fastballs: RHP Reed Braundmeier (SWIC), RHP Dustin Crawford (SWIC), RHP Tresdon Rybarczyk (SWIC), and RHP Donnie Canchela (Kaskaskia JC).
