PBR Illinois Pitcher of the Week: RHP Dylan Nagle

Coming off one of the better seasons in recent memory with a 34-4 record, the Porters are picking up right where they left off, finishing the first week of the season with a spotless 3-0 record (now 4-0). One of the Porters’ wins came against defending state champion and Preseason No. 1 Edwardsville, where RHP Dylan Nagle (2024; Uncommitted) set the tone on the mound to help jumpstart a 10-0 victory over the Tigers.

The uncommitted right-hander was in control throughout the entirety of his outing; tossing five innings of one hit ball (with the one hit being a weak single in the four-hole), striking out five and walking only two against a scrappy Edwardsville lineup.

The stat-line on its own is impressive, but the totality of his success goes deeper than what the book says. With inclement weather, the Porters decided to still make the trek all the way down to Edwardsville while unsure if they would even play. Nagle then went on to dominate an extremely well-coached and defending state champion Tigers lineup in his first start of the season. Somewhat new to the Porters rotation after only seeing 15.1 innings of work last year, Nagle has a new-found role and responsibility to help lead Lockport’s pitching staff - and he surely made a loud opening statement enroute to earning the first ever PBR Illinois Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of March 13-19.

Nagle is an arm that popped in front of our scouting staff over the summer in Rantoul. The 6-foot-1, 176-pound right-hander was showing a similar dominance with a riding fastball at 83-86 mph to pair with a sharp 11/5 breaker at 70-71 mph. If Nagle can settle into his role and dominate like we know he can, the Porters have themselves a true ace that they can rely on as the season progresses.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
