Preseason I.D. - Gurnee Preview: Roster and Check-in Times

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

The Prep Baseball Report Preseason I.D. – Gurnee at The Bat Speed Academy in Gurnee, IL will take place on Sunday, February 21, 2016.

The open showcase is geared towards all high school classes.

This Sunday marks the second Preseason I.D. – Gurnee event. The inaugural Preseason I.D. - Gurnee event took place last winter. Four participants from last year’s event have committed to Division I programs. RHP/C Anthony Calarco (New Trier HS, 2018) recently committed to Northwestern. Calarco, a switch-hittter, was a physically advanced freshman at the time and impressed with his two-way ability.

Northern Illinois recruit, RHP Mike Fuentes (Bremen HS, 2017) a recent standout at the Preseason All-State Showcase, was also in attendance last winter. Fuentes has seen a big jump in velocity since last winter where he sat 80-82 mph with his fastball. This past Sunday his fastball sat 86-88 mph with a clean and repeatable delivery.

RHP Kevin Malisheski (Wauconda HS, 2017) committed to Illinois State and toosly outfielder Stephen Mogged (Lakes Community HS, 2017) is committed to Southern Illinois.

This year’s event is already approaching 100 participants. The event is bound to bring some new names to the forefront as many are young and new to PBR events.

Three names we are familiar with is RHP Korey Soetaert (Wauconda HS, 2017), RHP Quinn Priester (Cary Grove HS, 2019) and RHP Colin Fields (Libertyville HS, 2018). Soetaert recently was up to 86 mph with his fastball at the Preseason All-State Showcase. Priester is a physical freshman who we have seen in the low 80’s this winter. 6-foot-1, 170-pound Fields has a quick arm and sat 80-82 mph with his fastball at the Underclass Invitational this winter.

We are looking forward to seeing who is primed to make a statement come this Sunday.
