Stock Report: 2015 OF Will Corn

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Today’s stock report is on Class of 2015 graduate Will Corn. Corn is a left-handed hitting two-way player from Hiawatha HS. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Corn led the Hawks in a number of offensive categories last season as a freshman. Most notably he hit .585 while hitting 5 homeruns and 12 doubles, he also drove in 37 RBI.

Corn is a dynamic and physically advanced prospect. The outfielder shows big-time power potential from the left side.  Corn has an explosive lower half and maintains excellent balance throughout contact, getting good extension on his swings.  He has an aggressive approach at the plate, creating good whip as he barreled everything up with backspin, carry and loft to right field.

Defensively, Corn moved well in the outfield, taking good routes to the baseball.  He was able to get through the ball and into his throws well, touching 83 from right field. Additionally, Corn ran a 7.42 60.

On the mound, Corn also shows potential as he throws from an over the top arm slot. He sits 82-84 mph topping out at 85 mph.  He also threw a 74-75 mph curveball with an 11/5 shape and a 76-79 mph changeup.

Corn is obviously a dynamic prospect and one who will be in attendance this Sunday at the Underclassmen Invitational. It will be interesting to see his progress and anticipating an excellent showing from Corn.
