Unsigned Senior Games: Outfield Analysis

Aaron Fuller stood out as one of the top overall prospects in attendance at the Unsigned Senior Games. He showed well above average speed, and one of the best bats at the event. Offensively he had a great weekend going 5-for-8 with four RBI.

Behind Fuller we saw many athletic outfielders with the tools to play at a high level. Here’s a look at our top outfield prospects from the Unsigned Senior Games.

Top Outfield Prospects

1. Aaron Fuller, OF, St. Rita HS, IL
Fuller was the clear position player standout at the Illinois Unsigned Senior Games. He’s a physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete, one who possesses excellent foot speed (6.79-second 60-yard dash) and extremely quick hands at the plate. Fuller lets the ball travel deep in the zone, and uses his hand speed to barrel the ball to right-center field. His swing is simple, balanced and athletic. In two games, Fuller wore out the baseball, going 5-for-8 with a triple and four RBI. Even his outs were hard hit, including a laser right at the left fielder. Defensively, he threw a runner out at the plate and was clocked at 82 mph from the outfield.

2. Brendan Saak, OF/RHP, Belleville West, 2014
5-foot-9, 160-pound two-way player. Saak had one of the better performances of Unsigned Senior Games. Defensively showed natural outfield actions, played through the baseball, quick clean exchange. Crow hopped through the baseball, arm played at 88 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, slightly open stance, slight toe tap leg lift stride. Line drive hitter with consistent solid contact, above average bat speed, 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Showed some extension, pull side approach, occasional gap to gap approach. 7.37 runner. On the mound uses a short high ¾ arm action with some effort. Fastball topped at 84 mph, sat 80-83 mph, mostly straight with command. Slider had sweeping action, 72-75 mph with feel. Curveball worked on 11/5 plane, 65-68 mph, above average control. Worked a 1-2-3 scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

3. Jeff Tucker, OF, Lyons Township, 2014
5-foot-11, 170-pound athletically strong outfielder who runs a 7.07 60. Defensively he showed a well above average skill set from the outfield. His actions were above average and he showed the ability to play through the ball with quick, athletic feet, and a smooth exchange.  He has a loose arm action, from a high ¾ slot with above average carry at 85 mph. At the plate he has a wide stance with a short stride.  The swing has fluid rhythm and solid extension, and above average bat speed.  Exit velocity off the tee was 81 mph.  In game action he consistently made strong contact with a repeatable swing.

4. Jaylen Yarbrough, OF, Bishop Noll, 2014
5-foot-8, 150-pound, small body outfielder with a plus speed tool, running a 6.71 60.  He showed off his speed in two games by stealing 3 bases.  From the outfield he displayed solid, quick footwork, and solid arm strength with quality carry, with a short arm action and an over-the-top arm slot.  His throws were accurate at 81 mph. At the plate he had an open stance with a short stride, and balanced swing. He displayed average bat speed with an exit velocity of 72 mph off the tee. In game action he showcased an advanced approach with the ability to hit line drives and use his speed as he amassed four hits over two games.

5. Matthew Skarzynski, LHP/OF, Carmel Catholic, 2014
6-foot-1, 180-pound, two way lefty with a strong body. In the outfield he moves athletically, throwing from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action, with average to above average carry at 82 mph.  In game action he showed off his athleticism by making a diving catch. In the 60 he was clocked at 7.41. As a left-handed hitter he has a balanced setup with a short stride, and explosive lower half. He showcased above average bat speed and produced an exit velocity of 81 mph off the tee. In game action he showed the ability to drive the ball, collecting two base hits, one for a double down the right field line. On the mound he throws from a high ¾ slot, with easy effort, with a tall and fall style delivery. He has a fastball that sits in the 76-79 mph range, with consistent run and sink action. He throws a sweeping breaking ball at 65-68 mph.

6. Erik Eggert, OF/RHP, Lincoln-Way North, 2014
Strong athletic build, 6-foot-1, 190-pound two way player. On the mound he worked from a full windup, athletic delivery. Arm worked from an over the top slot, short arm action. Fastball was mostly straight, showed control, 80-83 mph, topped at 84 mph. Breaking ball worked 11/5 plane, 66-71 mph. Defensively played through the baseball well from the outfield, clean transfer, fluid footwork. Arm played at 82 mph, loose arm action, over the top slot, showed accuracy and carry. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Pull side approach, short to the baseball, level path. 87 mph exit velocity.

7. Tom Simon, OF, Notre Dame College Prep, 2014
Average build, 5-foot-11, 175-pound outfielder. Defensively showed well above average actions from the outfield. Footwork showed signs of being quick and fluid. 7.04 runner in the 60. Plays through the baseball well with athletic actions. Arm worked loosely from an over the top slot, showed accuracy and occasional carry. 79 mph arm strength from the outfield. Offensively hits from a wide stance, short stride. Lower half is active, showed balance, simple and repeatable swing. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee.

8. Ryan Dalton, OF/1B, Lockport, 2014
6-foot-2, 185-pound, lanky, multi-positional player.  At the plate he has a wide, but balanced setup, with a short stride.  He showed above average bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 87 mph off the tee, with a short bat path and line drive swing that plays gap-to-gap.  In game action he made strong contact, collecting three base hits, including one double.  In the 60 he was clocked at 7.15.  Defensively, he moves well and gets downhill to play through the ball.  He throws with a loose arm, from an over-the-top slot with accuracy and average to above average carry at 82 mph.

9. Sam Muszynski, OF, Plainfield South, 2014
5-foot-10, 165-pound, strong armed outfielder.  In the field he showcased his arm strength by throwing 83 mph from an over-the-top slot, with a long arm action, solid carry and the throws were regularly on the mark. He showed plus defensive actions and attacked the ball aggressively in the outfield. He ran a 7.37 60. At the plate, he had a balanced setup and maintained excellent balance through the whole swing. He showcased above average bat speed with quality extension in the swing, as well as the ability to make consistent contact, that he coupled with a quality approach in game action. Off the tee he had an exit velocity of 78 mph.

10. Kyle Barrett, OF/RHP, Marist, 2014
5-foot-8, 150-pound, athletic two way player who ran a 7.07 60 and used that speed during the games to steal two bases. In the outfield he throws with a loose arm, an over-the-top slot with above average carry at 85 mph. He showed high quality footwork and worked through the ball with athletic aggression and high caliber actions. Offensively, he sets up with solid balance does not use a stride. He showed standard bat speed with an exit velocity of 76 mph. In two games of at-bats, he collected three hits and scored one run. On the mound he threw from the same over-the-top slot and throws a fastball and curveball. His fastball was straight and sat 76-79 mph, touching 80 mph twice. His curveball was 69 mph with average breaking action.

10. Jonthon Ernest, OF, Oak Park River Forest, 2014
6-foot-1, 190-pound outfielder. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Bat path displayed shortness, showing occasional extension. Bat speed present, posted 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed flashes of athleticism in the outfield, 7.10 runner in the 60. Arm played at 77 mph from the outfield.

Matt Barajas, OF/3B, Reavis, 2014
5-foot-7, 175-pound outfielder/infielder.  Defensively, he throws from a ¾ arm slot, with standard actions, at 80 mph.  At the plate he has a balanced swing that does not use any stride.  He has a line drive type of swing with a slight uphill path, and average bat speed with an exit velocity of 77 mph off the tee.  In game action he collected a couple of hits, one of which was a double.  He ran a 7.59 60.

Matt Bohanon, RHP/OF, Downers Grove North, 2014
6-foot-1, 150-pound, lanky 2-way player.  On the mound he has a long arm action that throws from a ¾ slot.  His fastball was in the 75-80 mph range and showed a late, sinking action.  His changeup was 66-68 mph with sink, and showed the ability to be a high quality out pitch thanks to an arm speed that matches his fastball arm speed.  The curveball was 64-66 mph with a 10/4 breaking action.  From the outfield he showed a long arm action with average arm strength registering at 81 mph.  Defensive actions were quality and he showed the ability to play through the ball well.  Offensively, he had a balanced setup with a short stride and with a line drive type swing.  Off the tee he had an exit velocity of 72 mph.  In game action he collected a couple of hits, along with multiple line drive outs right at defenders.  He ran a 7.5 60.

Patrick Burba, OF/1B, Grayslake Central, 2014
5-foot-11, 160-pound, left-handed hitting, multi-positional player.  Showed quality foot speed by running a 7.06 60.  In the field he showed a long arm action and threw 69 mph.  He played through the ball well, and displayed quality hands.  At the plate he has a wide stance that’s slightly closed, with a leg-kick trigger.  He showcased average bat speed with an exit velocity of 80 mph off a tee.  During the games he collected a couple of base hits and 1 RBI.

Anthony Corrado, OF/LHP, Minooka, 2014
5-foot-11, 165-pound, left-handed hitting, two way player who ran a 7.15 60 and stole one base in game action.  At the plate he showed a solid setup with a short stride, and a balanced swing.  He had an exit velocity of 72 mph that played better than that in game action as he collected two base hits.  In the field he uses a long arm action and a high ¾ slot to throw the ball.  His positional velocity was 78 mph.  Average actions in the field.  On the mound, he throws with a long arm from the same high ¾ slot and lands across his body.  His fastball flashed occasional sink at 74-79 mph.  He also featured a changeup at 66 mph that flashed a fading action.

Luke Domask, OF, Glenbard West, 2014
6-foot, 180-pound athletic outfielder.  From the outfield he throws from a high ¾ arm slot at 76 mph.  He was clocked at 7.26 in the 60.  At the plate he has a balanced setup and short stride with a balanced swing.  His exit velocity off the tee was 81 mph.  In game action he displayed strike zone discipline by accumulating a few walks to go along with 1 double, scored 3 runs, and had 1 stolen base.

Justin Dooley, OF, Grayslake Central, 2014
5-foot-6, 145-pound left-handed outfielder who throws with a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot at 76 mph with some accuracy.  At the plate he has a balanced approach with a short stride.  Off the tee his exit velocity was 79 mph.  Showed average bat speed, with a level bat path, and a line drive, gap-to-gap hitter with excellent balance throughout the swing.

David Dugger, MIF/OF, Rich Central, 2014
5-foot-9, 160-pound, athletic position player who ran a 7.00 60.  Offensively, he uses a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride to create a solid line drive swing that makes hard contact on a consistent basis.  The swing has quality extension and bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 79 mph.  From the outfield he throws with a long arm action, from an over-the-top slot, at 78 mph.  On the infield he showed athletic feet with clean hands, and threw it 81 mph across the diamond.  In two games worth of at-bats he showed a high level approach, collecting 2 walks and 3 base hits.

Diontrell Earls, OF, Simeon, 2014
6-foot, 190-pound outfielder with well above average foot speed running a 6.89 60.  At the plate he has a balanced setup, slightly open stance, and a short stride.  Showcased explosive bat speed that plays higher than his 81 mph exit velocity suggests.  Defensively, he showed athletic actions, and throws with a short arm action at 69 mph.

Dean Johnson, OF/1B, Herscher, 2014
6-foot-3, 190-pound, strong, athletic, multi-positional player.  In the field he throws from a ¾ slot, with average carry at 78 mph.  He showed solid hands with a clean exchange in the infield.  He also ran a 7.2 60.  At the plate he has a balanced setup with a short stride.  Off the tee he had an exit velocity of 79 mph.

Nick Jones, OF/LHP, Lake Zurich, 2014
6-foot-1, 180-pound, rand hand hitting, two way player with an athletic body.  Defensively, he has a short arm action with a high ¾ slot.  When fielding, his actions showed athleticism, and he had a positional velocity of 68 mph.  At the plate he showed a balanced setup, smooth loading action, with a short stride.  The swing is simple with a slightly uphill path, solid extension, and above average bat speed.  His exit velocity was 87 mph off the tee.  In game action he collected multiple hits, including one triple.  He ran a 7.04 60.  On the mound he throws from a high ¾ slot, with a short, stiff arm action.  Throws a straight fastball sitting in the 74-75 mph range.  His curveball was 62-65 mph with loose action.

Evan Ketterhagen, OF/INF, Wilmot (WI), 2014
Lanky frame, slender build, 6-foot, 140-pound multi-positional player. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, slightly open, short stride. 71 mph exit velocity from the tee, above average bat path, short to the baseball. Defensively in the outfield used a crow hop through the baseball, set himself up well behind the ball. On the infield showed some softness in his hands. Used a long over the top arm action at 76 mph across the diamond.

Danny Krueger, OF, Lake Zurich, 2014
5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Uphill bat path, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively uses a long arm action, high ¾ arm slot, 70 mph arm from the outfield. 7.66 runner in the 60.

Joey Kukla, OF/INF, Notre Dame College Prep, 2014
Stronger build, 6-foot, 170-pound multi positional player. Showed above average foot speed running a 6.95 60. Defensively uses a long arm action, over the top slot, clocked at 78 mph from the outfield and 76 mph across the infield. Offensively this with a toe tap stride, minimal load. Swings hard, shows effort, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Ian Luttrell, LHP/OF, Oak Park River Forest, 2014
5-foot-11, 180-pound two way player. On the mound he showed the ability to pound the strike zone from the left side. Repeats his delivery with ease, high ¾ arm slot, tall and fall approach, worked on line with solid direction. Fastball has arm side run, occasionally late action, 76-78 mph. Curveball has 11/5 action with feel, 62-63 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride and smooth load. Posted strong exit velocity at 88 mph from the tee. Hard contact, mostly pull side hitter, displayed whip through the zone.

Michael Mannix, OF, Wheaton North, 2014
5-foot-10, 155-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder with a slender build.  At the plate he has a closed stance, short stride, and a balanced swing.  His bat path is level, with quality extension, and produced an exit velocity of 71 mph.  In game action his swing produced multiple line drives.  Defensively, he throws from a high ¾ arm slot at 77 mph.  He ran a 7.76 60.

Joshua Meyers, SS/OF, Marmion, 2014
6-foot, 177-pound athletic, multi-positional player who ran a 7.00 60.  Defensively, he throws with a loose arm at 81 mph with above average carry.  At the plate he has an open stance with a toe tap load and launch mechanism with a fluid, balanced swing.  His bat path is uphill, with solid bat speed.  Exit velocity off the tee was 83 mph.  During game action he showed the ability to drive the ball on a line, including one double to the pull side gap.

Greg Ploszaj, OF, Mount Carmel, 2014
Smaller frame, shows strength, 5-foot-9, 160-pounds. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, slightly open stance, arm bar load, short stride. Two piece swing, longer path, occasional line drive tendencies. Defensively uses crowhop, efficient transfer, clean exchange. Arm played at 82 mph from the outfield, short arm action. Showed footwork in the outfield, 6.95 runner in the 60.

Henry Sperry, OF, Herscher, 2014
6-foot-3, 210-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder with a strong body.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup with a toe tap load and launch mechanism.  He showed average bat speed and had an exit velocity of 82 mph.  In game action he showed his power to the pull side by ripping a homerun over the right field wall.  His ability to hit the ball to all fields was showcased as he also collected a couple of base hits to the opposite field.  Defensively, he throws with a long arm action from a ¾ slot with solid carry at 71 mph.  He also ran a 7.54 60.

Tanner Spoden, 1B/OF, Marian Central Catholic, 2014
6-foot-1, 200-pound, strong bodied position player.  Defensively, he showcased average actions, with a ¾ arm slot, and threw 76 mph.  Offensively, he had a wide setup with a slight crouch, and no stride.  Has average bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph.  In game action he had one hit that went for extra bases.

Jake Stewart, OF/SS, St. Joseph-Ogden, 2014
5-foot-9, 140-pound, lanky, multi-positional player.  On the infield he throws with a short arm action from a high ¾ slot.  Showed the ability to make accurate throws at 81 mph, with solid hands.  He ran a 7.18 60.  At the plate he has a balanced setup with a toe tap load/launch mechanism.  Swing has fluid rhythm, a level and extended path, with average to above average bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 80 mph off a tee. 

Steven Stubitsch, OF, TF South, 2014
5-foot-10, 145-pound, lanky, outfielder.  Defensively, he has a long arm, throwing from a high ¾ slot with average carry, at 79 mph.  He displayed quality footwork while working through balls, and tracking a couple fly balls down in game action.  Offensively, he displayed a balanced setup, with a smooth backward loading action and a short stride.  He showed the ability to maintain solid balance throughout the swing.  He has a line drive swing, with a gap-to-gap approach.

Bryce Styninger, OF, Nashville Community, 2014
Strong build, 6-foot-1, 205-pound outfielder. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, longer stride. Lower half showed some involvement, moderate balance through contact. Bat path is long, shows strength, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively plays with a high ¾ arm slot from the outfield, works uphill, 69 mph arm from the outfield. 7.75 runner in the 60.

Jake Tiso, OF, Richmond Burton, 2014
5-foot-11, 160-pound outfielder. Defensively uses a crowhop from the outfield, long arm action from a high ¾ slot. 67 mph arm strength from the outfield. Showed moderate foot speed, 7.15 runner in the 60. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, uses short stride, solid balance throughout. Short path to the baseball, showed the ability to make hard contact, gap to gap capabilities. 73 mph exit velocity from the tee.
