The way the recruiting process has sped up a lot of people think that all of the talent gets gobbled up before the early signing period leaving the cupboards bare. We recently got the chance to see RHP Max Novak from Geneva HS prove that there is still arm strength available in Illinois.
Novak has a typical athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and recently saw his fastball get up to 88 mph. He works from a ¾ arm slot which also adds occasional run to his fastball. Novak complimented his fastball best with his changeup at 75-78 mph, using fastball arm action he creates a good change of pace from his fastball.
Novak said he has recently started taking pitching lessons and for the first time has really seen the work pay off with results.
Currently he has been in contact with a number of Division 2 and 3 coaches as well as Valparaiso, Ball State and Morehead State.
Novak should see plenty of followers this spring to keep tabs on his progress as he is one of only two uncommitted right handers in Illinois sitting better than 85 mph.
