Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Andrew's Ramon Padilla

The Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase at the Max in McCook, IL took place Sunday, October 12, 2014. The open showcase was geared towards all uncommitted 2015 graduates, and included over 40 area colleges in attendance.

In that same vein, we will continue to highlight Unsigned Senior prospects who have either attended a PBR event over the last year, or who we’ve seen on the spring and summer circuit.

Ramon PadillaAndrew’s Ramon Padilla impressed this spring behind the dish when the Thunderbolts upset then No. 1 ranked Lincoln-Way North in a complete game effort by fellow unsigned senior Tom Bushnell. Andrew head coach Dave DeHaan praised Padilla’s receiving ability at the time, and the senior backstop continued to impress at October 12th’s Unsigned Senior Showcase. Let’s take a look at Padilla’s scouting report from the event, where he ranked as the top catching prospect in attendance, and the No. 9 overall prospect.

Scouting Report

5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong lower half hits from a tall, open setup, hands load smoothly, short stride, creating short, level bat path producing line drives during batting practice from gap-to-gap. Above average 83 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, was one of the top catch-and-throw prospects at the Unsigned Senior Showcase reeling off pop times in the 2.01-2.09 range. Above average velocity throwing from the crouch at 78 mph from a short, over the top slot. Ran a 7.14 60.
