Scouting Reports

2.19.17 - 6-foot-5, 230-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Drop and drive delivery working in line with home plate. Square landing with some rhythm. Fastball sat 82-85 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 66-69 mph. Splitter sat 73-76 mph.

1.17.16 - Solidly built, prototypical pitchers frame 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher. Up-tempo delivery, quick arm action out of a ¾ window. Regular effort throughout delivery, square landing, in-line direction and an upright finish. Fastball, featured arm-side-run with a tendency to miss to that side of the plate and sat 80-82 mph, touching 83.  Curveball worked 11/5, flashed sharpness when he stayed on top of the ball and ranged between 65-67 mph. Splitter was inconsistent and sat 72-76 mph.

10.25.15 - 6-foot-4, 200-pound, right-handed pitcher with a solid frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall at balance point, slight collapse on the backside before heading to the plate. Some rhythm with level shoulder and a closed landing. Fastball sat 78-80 mph. Got under curveball that showed sweeping action at 60-61 mph. Splitter sat 72-74 mph.

OUTLOOK:

The hulking 6-foot-5, 230-pound, right-hander has continued to see his velocity climb over the past couple of years. Reports had Powell sitting in the mid-80s this summer, occasionally climbing into the upper-80s. Powell throws a lot of strikes and relies on a splitter as his go-to secondary offering.
