Today’s Player Spotlight is on unsigned senior Ryne Blanton. Blanton is a Class of 2013 graduate of Richmond-Burton HS. Blanton is a two-way player that contributes on both sides of the field, showcased by his performance in last year’s Regional title game, where Blanton pitched his Rockets to victory with a complete game shutout as well as hitting a 3-run homerun, to knock off St. Edward.
Blanton is a strong, athletically built two-way player who has a projectable build for the next level. At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds he impresses in every aspect of the game. On the mound, Blanton shows solid feel and easy effort in his delivery. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and has three pitches: an 82-84 mph fastball with run, a 61-64 mph curveball, and a 77-78 mph changeup with sink. Defensively, Blanton is extremely talented at third base, demonstrating good lateral range and solid hands. He exhibits a strong, accurate arm across the diamond (83 mph). At the plate, Blanton has a balanced setup and maintains excellent balance throughout. He consistently makes hard contact to the power alleys.
Blanton hopes to lead the Rockets on another strong playoff run after winning the Class 2A Sectional title game in 2012.
