IHSA Diamond Notes: Week 8

Each week, IHSA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week and Prep Baseball Illinois Pitcher of the Week honors. Yesterday, we awarded the Week 8 Player of the Week honor to C Terrell Hampton-Hall (De La Salle, 2029) and the Pitcher of the Week honor to RHP Jackson Heidemann (Harlem, 2026; Madison JC). Hampton-Hall finished his week at the plate 13-for-16 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 13 RBIs and seven runs scored. Heidemann tossed seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 10 - becoming his school's all-time strikeout leader in doing so.
There were a number of other impressive performances that were in the mix for the award and deserve recognition. Here’s a look at some of the most notable.
WEEK 8 DIAMOND NOTES
+ Jameson Hanlon, (Newman Central Catholic, 2028):
Hanlon helped lead his team to another 3-0 week by going 6-for-11 at the plate. He recorded one double, five RBIs, and six runs scored while also adding four stolen bases. On the season, Hanlon is now hitting .481 with 37 hits, 12 doubles, and 25 RBIs.
+ Jory Crocker, (Willowbrook, 2027):
Arizona commit. Crocker was dominant at the plate during a 4-0 week for his team, going 10-for-14. He recorded six extra-base hits, including three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He finished the week with six RBIs, nine runs scored, and one stolen base.
+ Zolan Wyatt, DH/1B (Lane Tech, 2026):
UW-Oshkosh commit. Wyatt had a strong week at the plate, going 7-for-10 with one walk. He recorded one triple and one home run while driving in eight runs and scoring four times. He also added one stolen base and recorded three-hit performances against both Payton and York.
+ Carson Hamblin, CF (Lake Zurich, 2027):
Hamblin had a productive week at the plate, going 9-for-12 with four walks. He recorded two doubles and one triple while driving in four runs and scoring eight times. He also added two stolen bases to his totals.
+ Madden Asbaty, SS/RHP (Jones College Prep, 2028):
Asbaty went 8-for-10 at the plate with two walks, three doubles, and five RBIs. He scored six runs and recorded two stolen bases. On the mound against Kennedy, Asbaty pitched six innings, allowing three hits and three walks. He allowed one run and struck out 10 batters.
+ Colt Daugherty, RHP/UTIL (Fisher, 2029):
Daugherty went 6-for-9 at the plate with one walk, one double, and one home run. He drove in four runs, scored four times, and recorded one stolen base. On the mound in a conference win against El Paso Gridley, Daugherty pitched five innings and allowed eight hits and one walk. He allowed four runs and struck out nine batters.
+ Isaac Wendler, 1B/RHP (Father McGivney, 2027):
Illinois-Springfield commit. Wendler highlighted his week by hitting a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning against St. Anthony.
+ Cameron Lawson, SS (Quincy, 2026):
Lawson went 7-for-11 at the plate with three RBIs and five runs scored. He was also aggressive on the basepaths, recording seven stolen bases.
+ Trevor Ames, OF/P (St. Joseph Ogden, 2026):
Morton JC commit. Ames had a powerful week, going 8-for-13 at the plate with one walk, five home runs, and 10 RBIs. He also scored nine runs. On the mound against Milford, Ames pitched 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and two walks. He allowed two runs and struck out three batters.
+ Michael Terry, P (Granite City, 2027):
Terry turned in a dominant week on the mound, posting a 2-0 record over 11 innings pitched. He allowed five total hits and struck out 16 batters while allowing only one run across two appearances. In his first outing against Cahokia, he allowed one hit and struck out four in a four-inning victory. He followed that with a complete-game effort against Carbondale, allowing five hits and striking out 10.
+ Luke Pasquesi, CF (Lake Forest, 2026):
Pasquesi went 5-for-10 at the plate with one walk and two doubles. He was a major run producer, driving in 10 runs and scoring five times.
+ Johnny Louise, 1B/RHP (Montini Catholic, 2027):
Louise went 7-for-11 at the plate with six walks and two doubles. He showed significant power by hitting three home runs, driving in eight runs, and scoring seven times.
+ Logan Hickman, RHP/SS (Alton (Sr.), 2026):
John A. Logan commit. Hickman went 3-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. On the mound across two appearances against Waterloo and Belleville West, he pitched eight innings and allowed six hits and three walks. He allowed no runs and struck out 11 batters.
+ Kendall Erdmann, SS (Forreston, 2026):
Erdmann had a massive five-game week, going 10-for-14 at the plate with two walks and three doubles. He hit three home runs, drove in 13 runs, and scored 12 times while adding three stolen bases.
ALLEMAN
The Pioneers finished last week 4-1, defeating Ridgewood, Quincy, as ROWVA/Williamsfield, losing game one to Quincy. Below are some of their top performers from last week.
+ Truman Marner, 2B/OF/RHP (Alleman, 2027):
Marner went 6-for-14 at the plate with five walks and four doubles. He contributed seven RBIs, scored nine runs, and recorded seven stolen bases.
+ Gavin Wilburn, SS (Alleman, 2026):
Wilburn went 7-for-14 at the plate with two walks and two doubles. He hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh to complete a comeback against Quincy. He finished the week with two RBIs, six runs scored, and six stolen bases.
+ Carter Erickson, OF (Alleman, 2029):
Erickson went 7-for-10 at the plate with one walk and one double. He scored five runs and was a constant threat on the bases with seven stolen bases.
NEUQUA VALLEY
Below are some of the top performers from Neuqua Valley throughout last week's action.
+ Jack Mackey, OF (Neuqua Valley, 2028):
Mackey went 8-for-13 at the plate with two walks, one double, and three RBIs. He scored five runs and successfully stole three bases.
+ Andy Barkley, CF (Neuqua Valley, 2026):
Barkley was very effective at the plate, going 9-for-15 with two walks and four doubles. He drove in four runs, scored six runs, and recorded one stolen base.
+ Christian Lott , 1B/RHP (Neuqua Valley, 2026):
Southern University (La.) commit. Lott threw six innings in a win over DeKalb, allowing six hits and two walks. He allowed no runs and struck out five batters.
No. 4 LOCKPORT
The Porters finished last week 3-0, defeating Bradley-Bourbonnais twice and Lincoln-Way West. below were some of the top performers from those three games.
+ Austin Winge, RHP (Lockport, 2027):
Winge delivered a dominant performance on the mound by pitching a seven-inning complete game. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters. He allowed two runs during the outing.
+ Trace Schaaf, RHP (Lockport, 2026):
Morton College commit. Schaaf was absolutely dominant on the mound, pitching five innings. He allowed two hits and zero walks while striking out eight batters. He allowed no runs during the performance.
+ Jack Schiek, 3B (Lockport, 2026):
Purdue-Northwest commit. Schiek had a very impressive week at the plate, going 5-for-7. He recorded two doubles and drove in three runs while scoring twice. He also played solid defense at third base.
+ Brendan Mecher, UTIL (Lockport, 2026):
Benedictine Football commit. Mecher swung the bat well, going 4-for-6 on the week. He drove in two runs and scored twice. He was also active on the basepaths, recording two stolen bases.
+ Adam Kozak, UT (Lockport, 2026):
Lewis commit. Kozak stayed hot at the plate, hitting .429 on the week. He recorded one big double, drove in four runs, and scored four times. He also added two walks and two stolen bases to his totals.
