Illinois 2026 Rankings: Update

By: Drew Locascio

For the last time this year, our staff has updated the state’s 2026 rankings with the offseason in full force.

We’ve expanded the list slightly to include a few fall standouts, whether it be at showcases, tournaments, or other events.

Below we’ve touched on some of the top 2026 prospects in the state, many of whom committed before the updated recruiting rules, as well as a few noteworthy prospects who impacted the top of the updated board.

We’ll spotlight more players as the week rolls on, but for now here are some prospects trending upward in this class as we head into the offseason.

Top of the Class

The top four in the class remain the same with ATH/UTIL Ethan Bass (Glenbrook North; Illinois) holding down the top spot once again. Bass is athletic enough to profile all over the field defensively, has a potent right-handed bat with advanced feel to hit with developing gap-to-gap power and also shows high-end stuff when he jumps on the mound. The Illinois commit has plenty of ceiling left to his game as well, despite how high his current floor is.

RHP/INF Callaghan O’Connor (Bishop McNamara; Notre Dame), UTIL TJ McQuillan (Mount Carmel; Louisville) and RHP Paddy Roth (St. Patrick) round out No. 2-4 in the state. Roth recently opened his commitment back up and is one of the top pitching prospects in the state.

Illinois commit, INF Joey Ireland (Mount Carmel), showed well in a number of looks this fall and is back up towards the top of the class at No. 5. The wiry, upside infielder is a high-level athlete (6.6 runner), plays with all kinds of bounce on the infield and continues to see his right-handed bat tick up. This fall Ireland took a number of confident, quality at-bats and was all over the barrel with sneaky strength and jump off the barrel to the pull-side. High-ceiling prospect who looks to be scratching the surface of his potential.

The rest of the top-10 remains in the same order as the last update:

+ No. 6 Landon Thome (Nazareth): Fluid left-handed hitter that started on last springs state title squad.

+ No. 7 Nolan Ramoley (Brother Rice): High-end athlete who features some of the top tools in the class.

+ No. 8 Brody Landgraf (Columbia): Physical multi-sport athlete that has a potent left-handed bat and moves well for his size.

+ No. 9 Addison Latko (DePaul College Prep; Illinois): Athletic, twitchy catcher who plays with a high-motor and has an impactful right-handed swing with gap-to-gap power.

+ No. 10 Anthony Eberlin (Edwardsville; TCU): Young looking, high-ceiling arm who has run his fastball up to 88 mph with his best stuff yet to come.

There was not a lot of movement towards the top of the list but two prospects worth mentioning are LHH OF Dominic Battista (Oswego East) and Connor Elenteny (Mount Carmel)

Battista, who is up to No. 18 in the class, was busy throughout the 2023 calendar year, most notably earning an invite to the Illinois State Games. He continued to prove his worth this fall at two separate PBRT events where he was all over the barrel throughout, played with a high motor, was tracking everything down in center field while standing out as a vocal leader on his team as well. Battista is a name-to-know in the class and it would not be shocking to see his name climb up the Illinois board as we continue to update the list down the road.

(Dominic Battista)

Elenteny was a new name that emerged this fall and is the highest ranked newcomer on our board at No. 20. Elenteny, an uncommitted 6-foot-3, 193-pound right-hander, got a start this fall and threw a high-volume of strikes while working comfortably in the mid-80s, T87. He also showed a feel for an above-average slider that played with horizontal action at 72-75 mph. He struck out eight in his four innings of work while scattering two hits. The long, loose-limbed sophomore controls his body well for his age and size, pitches with minimal effort and has plenty more to tap into down the road. High-follow uncommitted arm in the 2026 class.

(Connor Elenteny)

Stay tuned over the coming days for a look at some other noteworthy names that impacted the 2026 updated rankings in Illinois.
