McAvene has a strong, projectable pitchers frame at 6-foot-5, 208 pounds and showed one of the better fastballs in the state last spring, running it up to 94-95 on multiple occasions. He throws two breaking balls; a 75-79 curveball and an 82-85 slider flashing sharp break. McAvene capped off his high school career by leading Roncalli to a 4A state championship.
