Season Outlook

In 2017, The Mavericks broke 15 individual and season records on the way to winning their first state championship in school history.  In 2018, Maize South will have the core of their team returning.  Junior RHP Hayden Bontrager won a school record eight games as a sophomore and looks to lead the staff again this spring. The Mavericks will be solid defensively, sporting one of the best infields in that state in any class in seniors Jack Wagner, a Kansas commit, Bradyn Wiens, a Barton CC recruit and Brody Hanna, a Pratt recruit.  Junior Grant Bumgardner, Kansas State commit, will patrol the outfield and give the Mavericks a power bat in the middle of the middle of the line up.  Maize South has a young talent to add depth to already talented upperclass roster.  Sophomore LHP Jayce Meyer and junior 2B Alex Epp could also play important roles with spring, along with several other sophomores and juniors. The Mavericks will be tested early, taking on two Oklahoma powerhouses in Bixby and Deer Creek to kick off the season.  As the calendar turn to May, watch for the Mavericks to break even more records and make another run at the state championship.
