626!8 - Bontrager has a large, athletic and projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 165 pounds. He has a compact delivery, smooth and fluid actions, works with direction towards home plate, long and loose arm action, throws three quality pitches for strikes, high ¾ arm slot. Bontrager’s fastball range is 79-81 mph, arm side run, strikes to both sides of the plate. Changeup is 69-73 mph, arm side run and sink, high number of strikes. Curveball is 66-70 mph, has a change to be a plus pitch, 10-to-4 shape, late bite at times. During game action Bontrager forced a lot of weak contact and curveball was a swing and miss pitch.
6/19/18 - Bontrager has a long and lean build, projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 165 pounds. He ran a 7.21 60, 4.81 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Bontrager has a simple load, quick hands, leverages his front side, finishes with his hands high. Defensively, Bontrager has good actions, quick arm, ¾ arm slot, strong arm with a positional velo of 80 mph, very accurate throws. On the mound, Bontrager has a very projectable frame, long limbs, delivery starts with a slower tempo but builds as he works down the mound, fastball is thrown for a high percentage of strikes with arm side run, 76-79 mph, changeup is a plus pitch with good action, 67-70 mph, high percentage of strikes, curveball has slurve type spin, 10-to-4 shape, 66-68 mph.
6/20/17 - Bontrager is a 6-foot-4 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.41 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load into back side, minimal hand load, level bat path, stays through contact, squared up a majority of ball to middle of the field and pull side during batting practice, has pull power, advanced swing.  On the infield, high three quarters release, fluid actions with clean transfer, fields ball in athletic position ready to throw, accurate throws with carry, 76 mph positional velo, long and lean frame able to add strength to already athletic action at the plate and on the infield. On the mound, Bontrager has a highly projectable frame with long levers, loose and easy arm action would suggest consistent veto increase as he continues to develop, showed fastball and curveball in game action, has command of both pitches, throws strikes, fastball at 73-75 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, 61-62 mph, some sharpness, throws with regular effort, release out front, simple and repeatable delivery.
