Inside the 2020 Rankings: Uncommitted Left-Handed Hitters

After a long summer and fall of tournaments and showcases, here is an inside look at Kansas' 2020 Rankings.  Today, we take a look at available left-handed hitters in the 2020 class from around the Sunflower State. Players are listed in alphabetical order and have an exit velocity of 80 mph or better.

2020 Left Handed Hitters

Peyton Beck OF / LHP / Chanute , KS / 2020

Beck is a 5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed pitcher and first basement in Kansas 2020 class from Chanute HS. He ran a 4.40 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. Beck has a simple and minimal load, quick hands, flat bat path, showed contact to the middle of the field. Defensively, Beck showed range, quick feet, clean transfers, quick arm action, positional velo of 65 mph, accurate throws.

Mack Clark SS / C / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Clark is a strong 5-foot-11 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop and right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an 90 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts in open stance, smooth load to back side with weight shift, minimal movement in hands, short and compact swing, repeatable, showed pull side power, slight lift to path after contact. On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick transfer and release, stays under control, athletic, smooth actions, accurate throws, 82 mph positional velocity. Behind the plate, has 1.95 to 2.12 pop times with 76 mph positional velocity.

Dylan Dwyer C / 3B / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Dwyer is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.75 60, a 4.91 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balaned set up, smooth load in lower half with no wasted movement in hands, short stride, mostly opposite field line drives during hitting evals, hands work inside the ball, stays under control throughout swing.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.13 and 2.30 seconds, 67 mph positional velocity, thin set up in base, over the top release with clean and quick transfer, throws are online to the bag, some with carry.

Dylan Epke 3B / RHP / Maize South, KS / 2020

Epke is a 5-foot-11 165-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.46 60 and a 4.33 home to first.  He has a 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and balanced set up, slight pre pitch rhythm in hands with slight weight shift to load, short stride, simple and repeatable, loose hands level path, controls the barrel with hands, gap to gap contact.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, fluid actions, fields ball in athletic position, high three quarters arm slot, smooth transfer, loose arm action, accurate throws.

Seger Holman SS / 2B / Bishop Carroll, KS / 2020

Holman is a long limbed and projectable 6-foot-3, 155-pound, left-handed hitting middle infield and right-handed pitching prospect in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.07 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During hitting evaluations, Holman’s long levers create leverage, quick bat, ball jumped on the barrel, showed hard contact to the middle and pull sides, high finish with hands, remains balanced throughout swing. On the infield, Holman shows fluid footwork, momentum towards first base, clean transfers, positional velo of 72 mph, accurate throws.

Alex Johnson C / OF / Frontenac , KS / 2020

Johnson is a strong and athletically built 5-foot-10 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 6.89 60 and a 4.70 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, some hand load with pre pitch rhythm, body stays under control, level path, gap to gap approach, repeatable swing.  Behind the plate, high three quarters arm slot, slightly staggered set up, clean transfer, feet create momentum to throw after the catch, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.01 and 2.30, 75 mph positional velocity.

Matt Miller OF / 2B / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

Miller is a 5-foot-11 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 6.90 60, a 4.41 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, no wasted movement in weight shift load to back side, loose hands, high finish in hands, gap to gap approach, flashed power to pull side, hits with strong levers in lower half.  In the outfield, quick to the ball with footwork, quick transfer and throw, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, plays through the ball, 82 mph positional velocity.

Luke Millman 1B / LHP / DeSoto, KS / 2020

Millman is a 6-foot-1 195-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.10 60, a 4.33 home to first and had an 97 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, tall set up with rhythm in hands, in line stride with minimal load, no wasted movement, feel for the barrel with gap to gap line drives. On the infield,  77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, accurate throws, quick to the ball with footwork, clean exchange, gains ground to throw with footwork.

Nathan Rouse OF / 2B / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Rouse is a 5-foot-9 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.06 60 and a 4.34 home to first.  he has an 88 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts slightly open, small leg lift, hands walk away from stride, loose hand with fast bat, slight lift at end of swing, gap to gap line drives with pull side power.  In the outfield, aggressive and quick to the ball, quick catch and throw, footwork creates momentum through the catch, over the top arm slot, 82 mph positional velocity, mostly accurate throws.

Brady Stevenson C / OF / Spring Hill , KS / 2020

Stevenson is a 6-foot 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.51 60 and a 4.65 home to first.  He had an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, slight load with weight shift, short and in line with stride, some lift to bat path, works to pulls side with occasional oppo line drive.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.00 and 2.09-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, square set up base, short over the top arm slot, quick exchange on time with footwork, feet replace creating momentum, mostly accurate throws, some with carry to the bag.

Will Thompson SS / RHP / St Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2020

Thompson is a 5-foot-11 180-pound left-handed hitting shortstop and right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.60 60, a 4.22 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, loads weight against back side, quick bat speed with slight lift to path, middle to pull contact, power to pull side.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, gains ground after the catch with two shuffles, fields ball in athletic position, clean transfer, arm works, mostly accurate throws, 82 mph positional velocity.

Austin Warkins 1B / 3B / Campus, KS / 2020

Warkins is a 6-foot- 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.46 60, a 4.69 home to first and had an 88 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, tall and open set up, in line stride, minimal hand load and weight shift with controlled leg lift, short to contact, hard line drives gap to gap, occasional pull side power. On the infield, over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, reverse pivot to start double play, create momentum after the catch with footwork, mostly accurate throws, 74 mph positional velocity.

Mikey Welsh C / 1B / Bishop Miege, KS / 2020

Welsh is a 6-foot 180-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 8.12 60, a 4.89 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back leg, accelerates after stride, stays square, level path, works inside the ball, middle of the field approach.  Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, fluid exchange on time with quick footwork, throws have carry and are mostly accurate, pop times between 2.09 and 2.18-seconds, 74 mph positional velocity.
