Clark

Clark is a strong 5-foot-11 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop and right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts in open stance, smooth load to back side with weight shift, minimal movement in hands, short and compact swing, repeatable, showed pull side power, slight lift to path after contact. On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick transfer and release, stays under control, athletic, smooth actions, accurate throws, 83 mph positional velocity. On the mound, Clark has an athletic and repeatable delivery, explosive lower half with direction towards home plate. His clean, high-three quarter arm action allow for the ability to throw 3 pitches for strikes. Fastball sits 83-85 mph, occasional arm side run, around the strike zone, curveball is 65-70 mph (at the event) with gradual type action, 11-to-5 shape, near fastball arm speed, slider is 74-77 mph, late bite with 10-to-4 shape, thrown aggressively, chance to be a plus pitch. Clark’s strong build and athleticism make a him a prospect to follow as he develops.

8/4/18 - Clark demonstrates a powerful and quick left handed swing.  He flashed power to the pull side with an aggressive swing speed and level path, his exit velocity was 82 mph.  On the infield, Clark had a positional velocity at 82 mph making accurate throws.  Clark will athletic at 5-foot-11 175-pounds, and looks to continue on an upward trend over the next several months.

6/5/18 - Clark is a strong 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.40 60, a 4.90 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin set up, smooth load with short stride, loose and quick hands, feel for the barrell, stays on ball after contact, tripled and singled in game action.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.95 and 2.13, 76 mph positonal velcoity, short over the top arm action, exchange on time with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

2/24/18 - Clark is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher, right-handed pitcher and infielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg kick, fast and loose hands create quick bat speed, body stays under control, aggressive level swing path, gap to gap line drives, repeats swing with feel for the barrel. Behind the plate, pop times between 1.96 and 2.12-seconds, 76 mph positional velocity, thin and staggered setup, gets low, shows flexibility, short high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, quick feet with mostly accurate throws flashing carry. On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, smooth and under control to the ball, fields the ball in athletic position, gathers feet with shuffles after to catch to gain momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws with some carry. On the mound, Clark comes set with a thin stance, lift leg straight up, creates in line acceleration down the mound, over the top arm slot, simple and repeatable delivery, fastball at 81-84 mph, curveball at 68-73 mph, 11-to-5 shape with depth, late action, change up at 71-73 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, some sink.

5/31/17 - A 5-foot-10, 160-pound lean frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a knock-kneed, slightly open, balanced set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a short stride, is short to the ball, shows some bat speed. In BP, consistent barrels, with a flat, middle of the field approach, very good round, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.52 60. Defensively, sits low in the crouch, sticks pitches well, above average blocker, mostly clean exchanges. Throws from a  high-3/4 slot, short arm stroke, some accuracy, 1.95-2.13 showcase pop times. In the game, went 1-for-2 with a well struck single to the left side.
