Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day: Corner Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day on Saturday, February 24 in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over seventy players in the 2021 to 2018 classes participated. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

This group of corner infielders included one player in the 2018 class, ten players in the 2019 class, three players in the 2020 class, and six players in the 2021 class.  Nine players hand an 86 or better exit velocity, with five over 90 mph.  Six players were 80 mph or better across the infield.  Here is a look at the corner infielders from the Mac N Seitz Scout Day.

Middle Infielders

Steven Azzaro C / OF / St James Academy, KS / 2021 Azzaro is a lean 6-foot-1 158-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.83 home to first and has an 80 exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, calm reverse to tap, creates direction towards the pitch with in line weight shift, quiet hands with level path through the zone, gap to gap approach. On the infield, 65 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, fluid transfer, accurate thrower, fluid footwork to the ball creates slight momentum to throw.

Kyle Brown 3B / RHP / Hickman , MO / 2020 Brown is a strong and well built 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.40 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, quick bat speed, high finish in hands, short in line stride, middle to pull side contact during hitting evals. On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, 78 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball with footwork, clean exchange with two quick shuffles in feet, quick exchange, mostly accurate throws with carry.

Benjamin Bryan C / RHP / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021 Bryan is a strong 6-foot 202-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and balanced set up, short stride with no wasted movement in load, in line stride, aggressive hands with quick bat speed, flashes power to the pull side with mostly middle to pull side contact. On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity at first base, high three quarters arm slot, accurate throws, soft hands, clean exchange, squares should to target before release, fluid footwork, big target at 1B with long reach.

Mack Clark C / SS / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020 Clark is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg kick, fast and loose hands create quick bat speed, body stays under control, aggressive level swing path, gap to gap line drives, repeats swing with feel for the barrel, On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, smooth and under control to the ball, fields the ball in athletic position, gathers feet with shuffles after to catch to gain momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws with some carry.

Brennan Connell RHP / 3B / Olathe West , KS / 2021 Connell is an athletically built 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.39 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, holds hands high in set up, smooth separation of hands and stride, loose and level bap plane, gap to gap line drives, flashing pull power, has good barrel awareness.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, high three quarters, smooth and under control to the ball with fluid exchange, feet create momentum though the catch, mostly accurate throws,

Coulton Doyle C / SS / Hickman, MO / 2019 Doyle is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran 4.40 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, slight pre-pitch rhythm in hands, controlled leg lift, in line stride, accelerated bat speed with loose hands and level path, gap to gap release. On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw,  short over the top arm slot, aggressive but under control, athletic with flashes of quick twitch actions.

Adam Gray RHP / 3B / Lees Summit North, MO / 2021 Gray is a long and lean 6-foot-4 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth hand load with in line stride, controlled and accelerated, hands generate a quick bat speed, slight lift to bat path with high finish in hands, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, short take away on transfer, high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork on time with transfer and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Zach Gwynne RHP / 3B / Raymore-Peculiar, MO / 2019 Gwynee is a physical 6-foot-3 230-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, calm load to back side with short in line stride, hands accelerate and creates quick bats speed, body stays under control, flashed pull side power.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, smooth and under control, works though the ball with soft hands and clean exchange, gains ground after the catch, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

David Kephart RHP / 3B / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2019 Kephart is a well-built and strong 6-foot-5 210-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, starts slightly open with weight in back leg, no wasted movement in load, in line stride, hands manage the bat head, generates fast bat speed with loose whip, good barrels awareness with power to pull side.  On the infield, 83 mph positional velocity at first base, attacks the ball with quick feet, reverse pivot to throw to second base, clean exchange, smooth actions, accurate throws with carry.

Alexander Khan RHP / 1B / Truman , MO / 2019 Khan is a strong 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.95 home to first and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, picks front foot up with smooth load and quiet hands, accelerates through contact to extension, gap to gap approach with power. On the infield, 78 mph positional velo at first base, smooth footwork, maintains momentum through the catch to throw, reverse pivot to second base, transfer on time with footwork, accurate throws.

Tyler Leachner 3B / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021 Leachner is a 5-foot-11 143-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.78 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, rocking action in lower half and hands to load, quick tempo, short stride, aggressive to the ball with quick bat speed, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, long take away from glove, aggressive to the ball, clean glove to hand transfer, plays through the ball with momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws.

Weston Madden RHP / 3B / Desoto, KS / 2021 Madden is a 6-foot 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.89 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with and open and tall set up, controlled small leg lift to in line stride, slight pre-pitch rhythm in hands, no wasted movement, loose and level bat path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velocity, smooth action, quick catch and throw, body stays under control, clean transfer, over the top release, mostly accurate throws.

Nick Modrcin C / 1B / St. James Academy, KS / 2018 Modrcin is a 6-foot-2 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.31 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, quick bat speed with pull side power, middle to pull contact, balanced set up with minimal load and no wasted movement. On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity at first base, short over the top arm slot, athletic and quick feet, smooth transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Brandon Ryan RHP / 3B / Olathe South, KS / 2019 Ryan is a 6-foot-1 200-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.38 home to first and has an 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open with some pre-pitch rhythm in hands, minimal load, in line stride, has feel for barrel, level bat plane with accelerated hands, consistent middle to pull side line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, works behind the ball, keeps momentum through the catch with one shuffle and release, smooth glove to hand transfer on time with footwork, accurate thrower, throws have carry.

Cole Schreiber 1B / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2019 Schreiber is a strong 6-foot-2 195-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.42 home to first and has an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, square set up in feet, slightly loaded in back leg, minimal load with no wasted movement, short in line stride, quick hands generate bat whip, gap to gap line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, smooth reverse pivot to second base, over the top arm slot, stays under control with smooth footwork, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws.

Nelson Schutte RHP / 3B / Kansas City Christian, KS / 2019 Schutte is a 5-foot-10 157-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.77 home to first and and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, thin set up, controlled leg lift with quiet hands, short to contact, hands work inside the ball, gap to gap line drives, level bat plane.  On the infield, 83 mph positional velocity, aggressive to the ball, soft hands with clean transfer, gains ground with two shuffles after the catch, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Blake Steele C / 1B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2019 Steele is a strong and slolid 6-foot-4 230-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.69 home to first and has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, showed power the pull gap with ability to drive the ball the other way, simple and repeatable with smooth rhythm, loose and quick hands, consistently found the barrel with hard contact. On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball with smooth footwork, quick reverse pivot with short over the top release to second base, fields ball in athletic position, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws.

Parker Strang 1B / RHP / Raymore Peculiat , MO / 2019 Strang is a solid 6-foot-5 260-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.86 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly closed, short stride, simple and repeatable load with no wasted movements, level path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, attacks ball, reverse pivot to second base, over the top arm slot, fluid exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Kruz Wahwahsuck 3B / RHP / Leavenworth, KS / 2019 Wahwahsuck is a 5-foot-10 200-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts open and tall, rotation to load, hands load with rotation and separation from stride, leg lift to stride, short in line stride, hands work inside the ball, mostly middle to opposite field line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top release, soft hands, loose arm action, fluid footwork with smooth glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Jaden Winder RHP / SS / Chillicothe , MO / 2020 Winder is a stong 6-foot-3 205-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.62 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, calm and controlled leg lift, smooth weight shift to back side, controlled leg lift, short in line stride, no wasted movement, level bat path through extension, quick bat speed with hands controlling the barrel, gap to gap line drives, occasional pull side power, repeats swing.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, controlled actions, quick catch and throw, soft hands with fluid transfer, mostly accurate throws.
