OK Summer Underclass Games Analysis: 2020 Catchers

Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma hosted its first event of the summer at beautiful L.Dale Mitchell Stadium on the campus of OU. This event hosted nearly 80 of the top 2020 and 2019 graduates from around the state for a pro showcase followed by games. These talented underclassmen showed their skills in front of coaches from every level of college baseball as well as the PBR OK staff.
All of the video, stats, and pictures from the event have been posted on each individual player's profiles. Over the next week and a half, we will be taking an in-depth look at each player from the event position by position.Today we will look at the 2020 catchers. Each player's full profile can be viewed by clicking on their picture. All exit velos were taken from a tee and all the at bats in the game started with a 1-1 count.

Mack Clark C / 2B / Metro Christian, OK / 2020A 5-foot-10, 160-pound lean frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a knock-kneed, slightly open, balanced set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a short stride, is short to the ball, shows some bat speed. In BP, consistent barrels, with a flat, middle of the field approach, very good round, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.52 60. Defensively, sits low in the crouch, sticks pitches well, above average blocker, mostly clean exchanges. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, short arm stroke, some accuracy, 1.95-2.13 showcase pop times. In the game, went 1-for-2 with a well struck single to the left side. |
Cooper Harris C / RHP / Choctaw, OK / 2020A lean 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open, athletic, balanced stance with rhythm throughout. Uses a rocking load with a short stride, some length in the swing, good extension. In BP, shows a mostly middle of the field, flat approach with some pull side pop, mostly barrels, 83 mph exit velo. Defensively, shines behind the plate as an advanced receiver and blocker with strong hands. On the throws to second, shows some length in the back with arm speed and whip through a high-3/4 slot, 81 mph, 1.95-2.01 showcase pop times, some accuracy. In the game, went 1-for-2 with a hard contact single. |
Jaret Johnson C / OF / Stillwater, OK / 2020 A 5-foot-9, 155-pound developing frame. The right-handed hitter bats from an upright, relaxed set-up with lots of rhythm and movement in his hands. Uses a big hanging knee-knock leg kick and a barrel wiggle for timing, takes a long stride, uphill path with length, high finish. In BP, shows a middle to pull approach with some lift and bat speed, barreling most balls, 84 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.5 60. Defensively, shows deliberate actions that will speed up with strength. Blocks well, throws with a short arm action and an over the top slot, 65 mph, some accuracy, 2.27-2.4 showcase pop times. In the game, went 0-for-2. |
Jack Roubik C / 3B / Oklahoma Christian School, OK / 2020A lean 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open, athletic, balanced set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a big reverse toe-tap load and a long stride with a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a middle to opposite field, flat/ground ball approach, some barrels, 74 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.57 60. Defensively, with nobody on, receives with his left knee turned in and down, soft hands. Sits low in the crouch with runners on, throws with a typical catcher arm action, 69 mph, 2.13-2.21 showcase pop times, puts every throw on the bag. Collin Wilmoth C / 3B / Midwest City, OK / 2020A 5-foot-10, 160-pound proportional frame. The right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open, upright, quiet stance. Uses a slight knee-knock leg kick with a short stride, short to the ball with a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a mostly flat, middle to opposite field approach, some barrels, 78 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.59 60. Defensively, shows slightly average receiving and blocking.
