Kansas Insider: Class of 2018 Performances from Winter Events

As the winter season season winds down and spring baseball is heating up, here are nine uncommitted players from PBR events this winter.

Uncommitted 2018 Winter Performances

Nicholas Chomyak OF / RHP / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2018

Chomyak is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.59 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth load in to back leg with leg kick, minimal hand movements, aggressive and quick hands, occasional pull side power, middle to pull contact.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, fluid actions through the ball, catches ball with quick transfer, small crow hop, strong frame. On the mound, Chomyak comes from a high three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, throws with effort at release, controlled leg to balance point, accelerates down the mound in line, fastball at 79-82 mph, some with late two-seam action, breaking ball with 12-to-6 shape at 73 mph, change up has arm side run at 74 mph, works a cutter at 74-75 mph, slight sink.

 

Brett Leon LHP / OF / Derby High School, KS / 2018

Leon is a 5-foot-10 180-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2018 class. Leon pitches with a controlled tempo and over the top release, simple and repeatable delivery. He was 77-77 mph with his fastball with slight arm side run, showed a breaking ball at 54-58 mph with 12-to-6 action, and a change up at 65-67 mph thrown with near fastball arm speed.

Nick Modrcin C / 1B / St. James Academy, KS / 2018

Modrcin is an athletically 6-foot-2 185-pound left handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2018 class.  He ran a 4.31 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts with open stance, in line stride, loose hand with slight lift to path, middle to pull side contact. His pop times were 2.08 to 2.20 with a 73 mph velo and was 76 mph on the infield at first base.

Jonathan Nash RHP / Ottawa , KS / 2018

Nash is a 5-foot-11 230-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2018 class. Nash comes from an over the top release, controlled leg lift, in line stride, accelerates downt he mound. He was 76-78 mph with his fastball, 60-62 mph with his breaking ball  with 12-to-6 shape and showed a slider at 64-65 mph with lower arm slot and more 11-to-5 action.

David Robinson 2B / OF / Bishop Miege, KS / 2018

Robinson is a strong 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting second baseman and outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.30 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velocity. On the infield, balanced stance, weight shift to load in lower half, hands load along the line of the pitch, short stride, in line, level path, pull side power with ability to drive the opposite field gap.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velocity, loose over the top release, arm works from all angles, quick feet playing through the ball, aggressive, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws. In the outfield, 86 mph positional velocity, fields ball off left foot, out front, clean exchange with athletic actions, aggressive through the ball, over the top arm slot, throws downhill.

Beau Rodriguez OF / RHP / Derby High School, KS / 2018

Rodriguez is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas' 2018 class.  He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, has a balanced stance, reverse toe tap, loose hands with middle to pull side contact, no wasted movement in hand or load. From the outfield he was 84 mph, aggressive to the ball, plays through the catch with momentum, throws with over the top release.

Drake Seetin RHP / C / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2018

Seetin is a 6-foot 195-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Seetin repeats his delivery well, aggressive down the mound, strong frame, throws with some effort, increases tempo as he accelerates to release, fastball works downhill, at 76-78 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, has depth and late/sharp break, change up with arm side sink at 68-71 mph.

Andrew Sumner RHP / Mill Valley, KS / 2018

Sumner is a slender 5-foot-8 147-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas' 2018 class.  Sumner was 69-71 mph with his fastball with sub-marine style release, 60-65 mph with his breaking ball that has a slider 10-to-4 break and 66-69 mph with his change up with arm side sink. 

Christopher Wilson 3B / SS / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2018

Wilson is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg kick, aggressive hands, loose, level path, showed power to pull side, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with feet, quick transfer, mostly accurate throws, 70 mph positional velocity.
