MOKAN Fall Trials: Catcher Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Fall Trials on October 20 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 40 players in Missouri and Kansas in the 2022 to 2019 classes attended.
Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.
Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos. Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.
Catchers
Cole Arndorfer C / 1B / Grain Valley, MO / 2021Arndofer is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.90 60 and a 4.94 home to first. He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, slight weight shift to back side, efficient and repeatable movements, short stride, hands work inside the ball, gap to gap line drives, body stays under control during swing. Behind the plate, 68 mph positional velocity, pop times between 2.28 and 2.32-seconds, thin set up in base, fluid transfer on time with fluid footwork, over the top arm slot, accurate throws with carry to the bag. |
Toby Becker C / 3B / Rock Creek, KS / 2019Becker is a 6-foot-3 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 7.46 60 and a 4.90 home to first. He has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced and tall set up, rhythm in hands pre-pitch, hands walk away from short in line stride to load, level path, stays in lower half with balance, occasional pull side power. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.16 and 2.31-seconds, 68 mph positional velocity, thin set up in base, high three quarters arm slot, clean exchange with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, some with carry to the bag. |
Caden Matlon C / 1B / Grain Valley, MO / 2020Malton is a 6-foot-2 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.36 60 and a 4.77 home to first. He had an 88 mph positional velocity. At the plate, starts in a balanced stance, weight shift to back side with minimal hand movement, generates quick bat speed, flashed pull side power, good balance. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.04 and 2.26-seconds. 72 mph positional velocity, quick exchange, over the top arm slot, creates momentum through the plate to throw with feet, accurate throws to the bag with carry. |
Mickey Simpson SS / C / Grain Valley , MO / 2019Simpson is a 5-foot-11 165-pound switch hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.40 60 and a 4.71 home to first. He had an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance with rhythm in hands, similar set up from both side, controlled leg lift, accelerated loose hands during swing, level path with middle of the field approach. Behind the plate, high three quarters arm slot, 74 mph positional velocity, pop times between 2.08 and 2.19-seconds, thin set up in base, lose arm action, sits low with flexibility, fluid footwork creating strong base and leverage, throws are mostly accurate with carry to the bag. |
Rhett Smith C / 1B / Grain Valley , MO / 2020Smith is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.88 60 and a 5.40 home to first. He has an exit velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, no wasted movement with minimal load in lower half and hands, short stride, hand manage the bat, level path through the zone, middle of the field approach.
