Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the Class of 2020 Games at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas on June 18.

Corner Infielders

Michael Allen 1B / LHP / Park Hill South , MO / 2020

Allen is a 6-foot 177-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 4.46 home to first, a 7.28 60, and had an 86 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, smooth load, no wasted movement in hands, stays balanced with high finish in hands, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, plays behind the ball with momentum in footwork after the catch, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws, 77 mph positional velocity.

Caden Bressler RHP / 3B / Sterling, KS / 2020

Bressler is a 6-foot 185-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.80 60, a 4.95 home to first and had an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open set up, lands closed, smooth load, accelerates hands, slight lift to bat path, line drives to middle and pull side of the field, occasional oppo line drive during hitting evals.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive the ball with footwork, quick catch and throw, accurate throws, some with carry.

Andrew Brubeck C / 3B / Mill Valley, KS / 2020

Brubeck is a 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and a 4.36 home to first.  He had an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced in stance, rhythm in hands, loads against back side, level path with controlled bat speed, gap to gap line drives, has feel for the barrel. On the infield, 74 mph positional velocity, controlled actions, clean transfer with soft hands, made all plays cleanly, fluid footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Trey DeGarmo 3B / SS / Andover Central , KS / 2020

DeGarmo is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 6.78 60 and a 4.81 home to first, has a 90 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, smooth load with trigger and load in hands, lands square, stays behind ball, quick bat speed, level through extension, flashes pull side power, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, controlled actions with clean transfer and throw, over the top arm slot, feet create momentum to throw after the catch, accurate throws with carry, 78 mph positional velocity.

Gunnar Hansen C / 3B / Superior, WI / 2020

Hansen is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Wisconsin’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and 4.46 home to first, his exit velocity was 86 mph.  At the plate, starts in a tall stance, controlled weight shift to back side, toe tap, short in line stride, level path, uses middle of the field. On the infield, over the top arm slot, fluid actions, soft hands, clean exchange with mostly accurate throws, 82 mph positional velocity.

Caleb Hoopes 1B / OF / Blue Valley , KS / 2020

Hoopes is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.53 60, a 4.99 home to first and had an 84 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, tall stance with load in lower half, short in line stride, hands control the bat, level path with middle of the field approach. On the infield, fluid footwork, clean exchange on time with footwork, soft hands, feet create momentum to throw, high three quarters arm slot, quick actions, mostly accurate throws, 64 mph positional velocity.

Camren Huber LHP / 1B / Park Hill South, MO / 2020

Huber is a 6-foot-1 250-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 5.12 home to first, a 8.35 60 and had an 86 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts with wide base, reverse stride with in line stride back to original start, minimal hand movement, middle to opposite field line drives.  On the infield, quick catch and throw, high three quarters arm slot, soft hands, mostly accurate throws, 67 mph positional velocity.

Cal Leonard RHP / 3B / Iola, KS / 2020

Leonard is a long and lean 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.60 60 and a 4.93 home to first, he had an 81 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, rocks back into back side with some hand load, quick and level swing with pull side line drives, good barrel awareness.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, fields ball in athletic position, gains ground with footwork after catch, transfer on time with momentum, mostly accurate throws with carry, 76 mph positional velocity. 

Luke Millman 1B / LHP / DeSoto, KS / 2020

Millman is a 6-foot-1 195-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 7.10 60, a 4.33 home to first and had an 87 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, tall set up with rhythm in hands, in line stride with minimal load, no wasted movement, feel for the barrel with gap to gap line drives. On the infield,  77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, accurate throws, quick to the ball with footwork, clean exchange, gains ground to throw with footwork. 

Ryan Picollo 3B / OF / Blue Valley North, KS / 2020

Picollo is an athletic and well built 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. At the plate, tall set up, toe tap, in line stride, accelerates hands, level through the zone, gap to gap approach, repeats swing with no wasted movements, manages the barrel well, stays under control.  On the infield, fluid actions, works behind the ball with footwork, clean transfer on time with footwork creating momentum to throw, accurate throws, clean arm action.

Andrew Schmidtlein 3B / RHP / Hayden , KS / 2020

Schmidtlein is a study 5-foot-9 210-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.21 home to first, he has an 87 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, controlled weight shift to back side, quiet hands, toe tap to in line stride, fast hands create quick bat speed, works to both gaps, gap to gap ability with some pop.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick to the ball with footwork, clean transfer and throw with athletic footwork, accurate throws with carry, 78 mph positional velocity.

Spencer Whitfield C / 1B / McPherson, KS / 2020

Whitfield is a well built 6-foot 195-pound switch hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.82 home to first and a 7.90 60.  He had an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable from both sides, pre pitch rhythm in hands, minimal load, in line stride, slightly longer swing from left side with pull approach, works gap to gap from right side, slight lift in bat path during finish. On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, aggressive and quick the ball with footwork, clean exchanges with mostly accurate throws.

Austin Warkins 1B / 3B / Campus, KS / 2020

Warkins is a 6-foot- 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.46 60, a 4.76 home to first and had an 88 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, tall and open set up, in line stride, minimal hand load and weight shift with controlled leg lift, short to contact, hard line drives gap to gap, occasional pull side power. On the infield, over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, reverse pivot to start double play, create momentum after the catch with footwork, mostly accurate throws, 74 mph positional velocity.
